R1CBU FT8

Just wondering if the signal reports on FT8 are correct or is it just the software is not able to decode below -11.? -11 seems to be the weakest signals I can receive.? If I switch and run WSJT I can get decoded reports of -22.
?
Inquiring minds would like to know.
?
However I just love be able to run FT8 and FT4 in a single radio unit including logging.? Love it and use it a lot.

Could you provide TRV settings you use? Screenshot/description¡ whatever.?

By default x6100 is not set to use with 70mhz TRV.?

Buildroot 2024.11 for R1CBU/R2RFE firmware

First of all many thanks to Oleg and Georgy (and Rui Oliveira) for all their hard work on the custom firmware for the X6100!
?
Over the last month or so I have been working on upgrading the base OS ('buildroot') of their firmware to the latest version; a few days ago buildroot released their version 2024.11, so I upgraded the base OS for their firmware to version 2024.11, and I think it is ready for others to play with.
?
I just pushed my buildroot external tree to this repository:
?
For those running Linux, building a new SD card should be very easy - the instructions are here:
?
This is a beta release for those who who are familiar with the software running on the X6100, and don't mind building from source; once the bugs are ironed out, I plan to build and publish an sdcard image.
?
These are some of the highlights of this latest version:
  • latest Linux kernel: 6.11.11
  • latest U-boot: 2024.10
  • newer version of liquidDSP
  • x6100_gui version 0.28.0 (I had to patch it in a few places to make it build without errors - you can see my changes in the 'patches' directory)
  • should always find the SD card as mmc0 thanks to mmc aliases in the device tree
  • uses gpiolib instead of sysfs for controlling GPIO pins, because sysfs has been deprecated
  • names for GPIO pins (instead of numbers), so now to power on Wifi you can just run 'gpioset -t 0 wifi=on'
  • modified aether-x6100-control and x6100-gui to use 'gpioset' instead of working with device files under '/sys/class/gpio'
  • disabled persistent network names, so now the Wifi network device is always wlan0 (instead of becoming wlan1, wlan2, etc after every on/off)
?
There are more changes I made, but I think these are most important that I can think of.
?
The usual (and important) caveat: this is still an early beta version and very likely has a few bugs, but if you are not afraid of trying new things (it won't brick your radio), please give it a try, and let me know if you find any problem.

RTTY shifts

Some commercial stations use 450hz shift? so might be worth adding?

Re: R1CBU firmware 0.27.0

I back up everything in Data but I have to work out how to back up the hidden folder that houses the WiFi pass words
?

Re: R1CBU firmware 0.27.0

I have a question... I upgraded to v0.28 and love it a lot. But every time I upgrade I have to redo all my settings. I understand that there's a way to backup and then reload my settings... Can somebody give a summary on how to do that? Would be grateful... redoing it every time is no fun.

Re: (Official) firmware update to 1.1.9 - severe error (bricked rig?) #firmware

You will never get CTCSS.? There is no way to support it.

Re: (Official) firmware update to 1.1.9 - severe error (bricked rig?) #firmware

I don't know the R1CBU version, but I can tell you that the official version 1.19 still has many bugs.

- The squelch does not work in FM mode! (In addition, there is no CTCSS which is annoying for FM repeaters in 29 Mhz)

- The quality of the internal microphone is very average. In the menu, past level 35 out of 50, the microphone no longer works.

- The SWR measurement is done at maximum power (5W) despite the power setting at minimum (0.1W)

- There are still as many "birdies" as on the other versions!

I hope there will be more improvements!

TX not working with FT8

My X6100 stopped TXing when using FT8.? I've tried WSJTX and MSHV, using FLRIG and Hamlib.? I've also tried Factory Reset and reinstalled the 1.19/1.18 firmware from Radioddity.? Any suggestions???

Has the R1CBU firmware solved this issue for anyone?

Well, I operated my first x6100 FT8 app POTA activation yesterday and it went great! Thank you, Georgy, for all your amazing work on this alternative firmware!
The QSO process ran smoothly tho' I did need to remember to turn the MFK knob to keep current on the display view.
The power and ALC numeric display is very helpful. Only wish list item is a running QSO total count display from the log if possible.

I wish I knew how to program.? Bluetooth keyboard messaging via JS8Call would be cool but the "heartbeat" alone has utility.

Hi Keith.

WSJT-x and FT8 application in alternative firmware uses a frequency shift for transmitting. Generated audio have almost same base frequency (something like 1500 Hz). So - even 500 Hz of bandwidth should be enough, because FT8 signal have 50Hz bandwidth.

?Hi,
after several unsuccessful attempts, I -in total distress- just unplugged 12V mains plug during one more attempts to reboot and rebooted the 6100 running on battery.
It worked.?
6100 rebooted and now it boots reproducably into the updated firmware¡

Although I do not know why this happened in the beginning and why it was solved and I cannot recommend this method to anybody, I am surprised and happy that it finally worked.

So, we can close this issue ¡ thanks to everyone who read it meanwhile and possibly answered to it¡. sorry for my clumsy english.?

Best regards and again thanks to all.

Try to push the power button for 10 seconds or more. This should power off the radio completely. Then turn it on (without SD card).
