Is the issue glare (light reflecting off the screen) or the screen is just not bright enough in bright ambient lighting conditions?

If it's the latter, Christopher's suggestion of a hood sounds good to me.

But if it's the former, what if you bought a matte-finish plastic screen protector for a tablet (like this one: ) and cut it down to size?
