S.E.T. and makerfaire with ARES/RACES
ARRL's simulated emergency test is 10/5. ARES/RACES will be doing HF voice and winlink to St. Lawrence county hospitals because they are part of Rochester Regional Health. W2SKY is a key player and anyone else is welcome to participate. We'll be simulating a regional outage of phone,internet and power. Makerfaire is at RIT this year 11/16 and we hope to have more of a real station on the air this year. The kids would love to see/hear your code keys and QSL cards and any homemade ham gear. MC ARES/RACES is a small group but we like to get out and do things like Mammoth March, a 20 mile 8 hour hike around Letchworth Park last month. We provided communications for health and safety along the course. XARC Board
Currently, XARC has no secretary and vice president. We would certainly accept any volunteers for these positions, but if not, we will continue to operate the club as before without these positions being filled. Since club meeting attendance has been mainly a subset of the same 4 to 6 members the last couple of years, we are reducing our meeting frequency. Every 3 months is the goal, but I need to work with Webster Rec and meeting dates for the next 10 months. Some meetings may be Zoom only. Our limited participation in club operations means that our club bylaws and constitution cannot be followed to the letter, but the board will continue to operate within the spirit of those documents. With that said, we have had repeaters on the air for 43 years continuously, and operated as a club on Field Day for 38 years straight and expect to do some more. As always, the club is made up of its members. January VHF Contest Results
In the July issue of QST, they published the abbreviated contest results for the Jan VHF contest. Congrats to Jared KF2MR for being in first place in the Atlantic Division for the Classic Rover category, with over 79,000 points. And congratulations to Steve, KA1CNF for being very shrewd and entering in the FM Only category and also being in first place in the Atlantic Division, with 36 points, which helped XARC finish last in the local club category!! Not to give Steve a hard time, he was nice enough to get on the air and help us get enough entries to even submit a club score, and we chuckled about how minimal of an effort we were able to mount. Safe to say I was more than a little surprised when I was perusing QST today and saw Steve's call. I'm guessing Steve was too. Sadly, the ARRL Contest portal is still only partially restored, with no complete contest results. I was looking forward to the 10 meter results.
