I downloaded the latest, it still didn¡¯t work. I did get the blue screen complaining about it being uncommon software (which I probably got with the earlier version and Windows simply remembered my answer on subsequent attempts to run it), said ¡®run anyway¡¯, got the UAC alert, then nothing.
I will have to punt on this question now because I have never seen this behavior. I have 3 windows machines: 2 desktop (one 10 and one 11) and a laptop. They all work exactly the same way that I described.
As a last resort to try, I would use a software uninstaller like Revo, check to see if there is any trace of Fldigi anywhere - installation files, code, registry, or configuration files. Make sure you have not given fldigi some sort of application security permission if so revoke it. Eliminate all of remaining traces and reboot.?
Yes, 4.2.06_setup.exe was what I used.
?
The other questions:
1 - no
2, 3 - not getting that screen, so no. It goes straight to the Windows UAC prompt.
4 - Windows' UAC did show up, I clicked on Yes.
5 - I didn't see anything after the UAC prompt. Nothing.
6 - Taskbar is not minimized, ribbon is not minimized to the window. I didn't see anything. I do have the taskbar set to show up at the TOP of the screen, but that shouldn't matter.
7 - no aftermarket antivirus or other security stuff. All of the Windows security stuff is at the default settings, I think.

Interesting. Are you trying to install using:
fldigi-4.2.06_setup.exe
-which is the latest non-alpha or beta code?
1. Are you getting a blue pop-up screen trying to stop you?
2. Are you selecting ¡°More options¡± on that screen?
3. When you do that, do you get another blue screen that gives you the choice of backing out or selecting ¡°Install anyway¡±?
4. When you do the install anyway, you should get the standard Window UAC panel asking you to confirm installation- 5. If you say yes, you will next get the fldigi installer panel and can select some install options and complete the install.
6 If you don¡¯t see that ¡°permissions¡± panel in 4 above, then look to see if the window is minimized to your Taskbar and open it, then proceed.
?
Let us know where what you see deviates from that sequence. It should work unless you have a 3rd party security app and/or the Windows security stuff cranked up and blocking everything.

They should make it a regular .zip file. The help files are, so the executable should be as well.

Bob,
On both my Win11 box and my now deprecated Win10 box I get the same ¡°apparent¡± result¡ however, if you look in the taskbar ribbon, you will see an icon for the minimized installer waiting for you to OK the installation.
If you don¡¯t see it in the taskbar, check the task manager. Either way, you should be able to bring it up onscreen and tell it to finish the installation.
