Re: Power?
Congratulations on the successful rebuild, Dan! :o) Willys was sure ahead of its time; even today I can't think of a manufacturer who supplies a tailwind a standard equipment in their cars. <g>

Re: Power?
Jay, just took out the overhauled Fhead 4 wagon, runs great, a few (dozen) leaks to chase, power is good. In terms of top speed with an Fhead, mine would difficult if it didn't have an overdrive.

Re: Power?
Could it be something as simple as the linkage not allowing full throttle? Revving in neutral, how does the engine respond?

Re: Power?
That's as Fast as it goes with the pedal to the metal. An incline of any
amount drops me down big time.

Re: Power?
Jay,
When you say "Top speed on the flat is 42", do you mean the engine won't rev any higher or that's as far as you are willing to push the throttle... Our wagon tops out at about 50-55 mph but will

Re: Power?
I would check the jets for proper mixture. Too rich or lean will rob power. Also check the timing curve. Something else you might want to consider is advancing the timing a couple of degrees. Under

So the resto is done and I'm at the point where I have to put out all the

You called it, flashlight holder. There's one on ebay for $250. Wow.

Flashlight (assuming they're flashlight-sized; hard to tell from the picture). I remember using similar clips, and I probably still have a catalog somewhere that shows them.

Re: ??,
Fire extinguisher would be my guess. There's not too many things you would want to mount on a steering column.

Re: The overhaul
I ordered an efi distributor and mean while fixed the vacuum advance by
adding a spring inside it. Maybe it was suppose to have one. Any way it ran
some what ok but only went at bout 40 mph. The efi

The overhaul
All,
Didn't win the bet with Jay about when the engines would be done, but the fhead 4 did start up last Sunday. It's been too hot to do much more work on it. Current hilarious argument- when the

Re: Can I substitute SAE 85W-90 for SAE 90
Thanks much. I checked with Valvoline and they said their Synchromesh oil is made for manual transmissions and the only one they have that meets the GL-4 spec. I¡¯ll try that.
Next issue is the

Re: Can I substitute SAE 85W-90 for SAE 90
Fred,
I don't know about 85-140 oil.
I installed Sta-Lube Gera Oil SAE 85W90 (multipurpose Hypoid) in both transmission and transfer case but haven't driven enough to know if there are problems.?
