Re: Can I substitute SAE 85W-90 for SAE 90

Thanks much. ?I checked with Valvoline and they said their Synchromesh oil is made for manual transmissions and the only one they have that meets the GL-4 spec. ?I¡¯ll try that.?
Next issue is the differentials. Do you know if they have any ¡®copper, bronze or other non-ferrous bearings and bushings¡¯ in them and need to stay away from GL-5 oils? ?(Life was much simpler back in 1957.)

?Fred,

I don't know about 85-140 oil.?
I installed Sta-Lube Gera Oil SAE 85W90 (multipurpose Hypoid) in both transmission and transfer case but haven't driven enough to know if there are problems.? The container says it is "perfect" for transmissions requiring API/GL-3 and GL-4 requirements.? Also, the container states it is not corrosive to copper, bronze or other non-ferrous bearings and bushings.
It was expensive.
