Re: THIS IS NOT A JOKE

Donna or Dan

MOM THIS IS THE 2nd, TIME WE HAVE HERED OF THIS,
TURE STORY

Interesting warning to pass on!

This can happen at home or at work, everyone should be aware...I've sent
this to all my friends Friday night and I've already had 3 email me and say
that it's already happened to them.

Pass this along to anyone that you can.

I received a telephone call from an individual identifying himself as an
AT&T Service Technician that was running a test on our telephone lines. He
stated that to complete the test we should touch nine (9), zero (0), pound
sign (#) and hang up. Luckily, we were suspicious and refused.

Upon contacting the telephone company we were informed that by pushing 90#
you end up giving the individual that called you access to your telephone
line and allows them to place a long distance telephone call, with the
charge appearing on your telephone bill. We were further informed that this
scam has been originating from many of the local jails/prisons.

I have verified with UCB Telecomm. that this actually happens. Please
beware. This sounds like an Urban Legend - IT IS NOT!!!

I called GTE Security this morning and verified that this is definitely
possible and DO NOT press 90# for ANYONE. It will give them access to your
phone line to make long distances calls ANYWHERE!!!! The GTE Security
department told me to go ahead and share this information with EVERYONE I
KNOW!!!

Could you PLEASE pass this on. If you have mailing lists and/or newsletters
from organizations you are connected with, I encourage you to include this
information.

YOM Plates and Packard

Bernie Daily

New York state has a year of manufacture plate program. My '64 Riviera
carries them and the '56 willys will when the current plates expire. Your
car must have "antique" on the insurance card provided by the Ins. company.
You supply a set of plates with a number that is not in use and pay a fixed
fee of $23 annually.
I also have a small NYS Thruway plate that went on the front of the truck
to show that the tolls had been prepaid.

I had a '56 Olds a few years ago and have missed the mid-50's style for too
long. I just bought a '55 Packard 400 2dr hardtop. The car has been stored
inside since 1967 and still has the '67 NYS inspection sticker. What's
strange is that I sold this car from my Grandfather's used car lot in 1966.
It's a boat! 127 inch wheelbase, dual exhaust through the bumpers, 374 CID,
Ultramatic transmission, power everything. And it all needs help!!! So if
any of you see one of these on a junkyard tour please let me know. One part
I need that is broken- there is a broad anodized strip on the right side
that ends in a potmetal chrome scoop. That scoop piece is broken.
Appreciate the help.

fuel pump

William Cunningham

I put a new fuel pump in tonight and now cannot get fuel to the carb.
There is gas in the tank, starts with starter fluid or gas dumped down
the carb. I took care to position the lever of the pump on top of the
cam lobe (correct terms?), yet no fuel.
Any tips on trouble shooting or things done wrong?
This is on a 1957 F-head in a FC 150.
It ran fine but the diaphragm in the old pump was shot (leaking out of
the relief holes).
The pump is not marked in or out so I wonder if I have the lines
switched?

I'm jealous of all you people who can actually use old plates on your

have these year of manufacture liscense plate laws? Does anyone know?
I'm thinking about writing some letters to find out why we don't here
in Kansas.

I'm also frustrated with the laws here in KS. My initial contact with the
registration people gave me little hope of putting anything on except an
"antique" tag since my jeep came up from Alabama without a title.

I was just wondering how much you are asking for the hard top for the

Re: Rear Main seal

Frank Wood

Captain Dan, the brill cream must not have done the trick.

No sleeping bag yet.
I do have coffee with my chassis in the morning before work and I make a
point to peek out there in the evening before I go to bed. The sandblaster
has been served with my claim and did not respond which means I will be
getting a court date in a couple of months unless I can figure out how to
file for a default judgment before then.
Got my front axle assembly bolted on on Sunday. Looks beautiful. Rear
axle next. The rear springs I bought from Carl have some kind of paraffin
coating on them. No paint. I asked Carl today (I call him on a daily
basis) if I could paint them. He said the wax stuff was just to
"lubricate" between the springs and I could paint them with no harm done.
Any opinions? I have thought about painting them black like the front
pair are painted, but my manual says not to.
Cheers, Frank

Frank, you haven't snuck a sleeping bag out to the garage yet have you?
Just checking.

Respectfully, Dan

Rear Main seal

Tech team,

Need some wrenching help. Has anyone broken the code on effectively installing the early series 6-226 (54-60?) rear main seal?

So far we have tried installing the lovely ropes twice, and have tried a late series neoprene seal kit (which is designed to work if you have installed a crank from a 230).

Outback Benjie, you there?

If you have done this, and your beloved does not lose her vital fluids after operation, please share with me your secret.

Frank, you haven't snuck a sleeping bag out to the garage yet have you? Just checking.

Respectfully, Dan

There's a 55 packard Clipper in Philbates Auto Salvage yard, West Point,
Virginia. Don't know the number. he also has some other late model Packards.

Dan, What kind of end play does your crank have? What is the condition of
your crank bearings? Have you mic ed them? If your crank isn't jumping
around, the rope seals should work. Do the ends of the seal overlap. If so,
the direction they overlap could be the problem. The directional rotation of
the crank could be forceing the ends open instead of closed. I've never
changed this seal on an L-226 but I have changed a couple of rope seals on
other engines without problems. I don't know if I've helped. Just my 2 cents
worth.

Hi Frank Wood,

If Rick gives out the locations of the possible donors in Houston then this is what I'm looking for:

26-Tooth Overdrive (6-spline) unit
Small running boards that fit btwn rear fender and door
Original Tail Light brackets (need two)
Drive shafts, pillow block and u-joints for rear-mount PTO (Truck)

I'll call the guy with the cab - thanks! Mark Peterson - Austin, TX

Frank, I must have brain dumped or something. I can't find where I hear about
this place. If you live in Houston and don't know about them they probably
don't exist. I must have the wrong city. If I come across the reference I'll
let you know. And no I'm not hiding it from you. :-) The only thing my truck
needs is a front seat and a front right fender.

Mark, would you happen to know where Marathon, Texas is? Beautiful out
there. North of Big Bend National Park. I met a guy out there this summer
that said he had a Willys truck cab he was parting out. Didnt see it
myself but I got his card.

Wish I was in Austin right now.

Greetings,

suffering from a large amount of downtime. Does anybody know where I
might
be able to track some of these "goodies" down? Thanks for your help.

Hi Mark, It's good to find someone a little closer to San Antonio. I
haven't
found any donor trucks down here but if I do I'll let you know. I've heard
there is a place in Houston that has some, but I haven't been down there
yet
to check them out. I understand where you're coming from about restoring
your
truck. I used my truck all last week to haul cars and trucks out of the mud
down here and loaded it full at least 100 times with all kinds of junk. I
never thought about what might get scratched or dented. Looking back I
might
have hesitated to take it into some of the places I went. But as it is,
"There's no place my Willys can't go". :-)

Year of Manufacture plates

Matt Phillimore

I'm jealous of all you people who can actually use old plates on your
old willys instead of a new or new "antique" tag. How many states
have these year of manufacture liscense plate laws? Does anyone know?
I'm thinking about writing some letters to find out why we don't here
in Kansas.

Matt
