Re: How long until EV conversions become commonplace?

The battery looks like the stock one from the Bolt. ?GM can easily put the batteries into a different case or pair of cases that would fit under the bed. ?EV West scans any potential vehicle so they have a detailed 3D image of where components can be added - no need for a tape measure these days. ?There's plenty of space below a Willys wagon's bed or even more with the pickup. ?Also, many pickups have a tool box just behind the cab that could be used for extra battery storage but, you might argue this position is a bit high up for heavy batteries.
It will be interesting to see the cost of the GM "kit" (and what GM will charge for conversion labour) - another reason to look forward to better possibilities in this New Year.

Cheers, stay healthy! ?Pavel up North.

@Mike, it's a bit off-topic, but you can fix the speedometer and gauges yourself. It's all outlined here: Don't forget to pull the felt plug on the back of the speedo and add a few drops of oil while it's out of the dash.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

What if anything did you do with the gauges in both vehicles. I have a 48 truck that needs gauge attention.?

What is wind lace? Isn’t that the piling-material tubing that runs around the doors?

And if I have all the original parts –then I don’t need everything in this kit from Kaiser’s right? I just need the material?

Wondering do I buy a prefab material that seems cut to size... (although none in the color I want (off white)

Re: 57 Wagon Headliner....

Go to some local car shows and find out who does the hot rods and classics locally. Go look at their shop and their work - let them look at your project and give you a price. Most times you can’t beat a tradesman at their own game and you can get exactly what you want for your ride. Unless you are proficient in upholstery and headliners along with having all the required tools, equipment and supplies you’d be far ahead of the game. Just my dos centavos! ???

Re: How long until EV conversions become commonplace?

I'm ignorant of any of the details (and there must be legions of them) of upgrading to electrics in any vehicle.? My son's Nissan Leaf has no cooling system at all - this is one of the complaints if you live in a hot climate (we don't up here in the North).? I think most of the newer EVs have liquid cooling, but Nissan is being stubborn.

Curious, what is the liquid cooling kit? To cool the batteries when being heavily discharged?
Good research you've done here. Thanks for sharing.

Of course, you can add more battery capacity and battery chemistry is improving all the time.? Still the starting number seems to be in the $15k USD ball park... and then you have the labour to consider plus any safety/governmental regulations.? Re: Door grab refurbish.

Good Job Pavel Up North

Door grab refurbish.

Our Willys needs many finishing touches - here's one that finally received some attention.?
I saved the old vinyl fabric from the seat backs when they were reupholstered in the '90s.? So long as you don't look closely, my attempt at recovering these inside door grabs doesn't look too bad...? The original covering can be compared to the "new" in the first picture.? The second picture shows how the vinyl was attached in the factory 55 years ago.? The 3rd picture shows the new components.? Unfortunately, I cut the pieces a little too small because I didn't take into account that the new foam seems to be much thicker than the original. C'est la vie !

It may be something as simple as you having the headlight and parking light connections reversed on the headlight switch. Been a while but I recall something about the front parking lights on the pickup being on all the time? O at least all the time when the ignition is on? Hopefully others will pipe in if I’m wrong.

No sparks are fling and everything else seems to work. The only thing left is the light switch, it should have two pull-out positions. I would pull [trace the wire] the hot wire from the head light to the light switch, the switch is bad or wired wrong. Walcks wiring harness should be good

Finally got the nerve to sort out ?my previous wiring mishap..... refresher: 46’ CJ2A,6 volt, Walcks wiring harness..... I had unhooked negative cable at battery since previous mishap. Hooked up cable today and headlights came on w/headlight switch in off position. Went thru parking light, headlight( all working), then back to off position but headlights did not turn off. Where should I look first? Remember....I seem to be an electrical idiot so simple, step by step is probably my only hope. Thank you for any and all help and a Happy Thanksgiving to all!!! Mike

Dan,
Both headlight buckets are out. I restored the grill unit, and reinstalled it to let it be driven a little, but haven't put headlight back in it.
I think the battery case (white) is what can be seen thru the driver side headlight opening.

Usually my wife loads the Christmas decorations for the entrance gate in the tractor/front end loader, but I was BushHogging today, so I loaded the boxes and bags of decorations in the back of the '60 Willy's wagon and got it running for her.
Down the driveway to the gate she went and worked off the tailgate, putting out the lights and garland.
While she was working a neighbor drove by, saw her working beside the Willys, and took this photo. Thought you'd enjoy it.
