pitman arm installation question...
Can anyone tell me which direction the pitman arm ball should face
when mounted on the sector gear? I'm reinstalling my Ross steering gear on my 62 pick-up and didn't write down¡or take a picture...and can't remember which way the ball ´Ú²¹³¦±ð²õ¡ Does the pitman arm ball face in or out? From my puller marks, it appears the arm was installed with the ball facing inward or, towards the frame - not sure which way is correct¡ I'm learing; just because that's the way the old one was installed doesn't that's the way it should be!--a lot of things on this truck were installed backwards! Any insight or pics are greatly appreciated! Thanks, Matt |

Re: [WT] Show time!
I plan on having it as polished and clean as I know how to make it.Stick with the soft cloths. Paper towels can be a little coarse and they tend to leave fuzzies behind. Can anyone share some tricks or insight as to what we can do to impressMy approach is probably not the best approach to follow, although I have four trophies to show for it. For the first three I just washed the truck with soapy water, rinsed, and dried. Used windex on the windows after that. This last show I just rinsed off the dust and dried it, and washed the windows. Another likely bad approach is correcting the judges. ;) Of course it also helps when you're the only truck in your division, or one of 2 or maybe 3. :) But like Ben mentioned, go to have fun not to get a trophy. Makes for a much more relaxed day and when you get the trophy it's much more enjoyable - and if you don't get one then your day was still a success because you had fun. If your show is anything like the ones I've been in you'll be spending most of the day talking to people "who used to have a Jeep truck/wagon/cj/jeepster" and wish they still had it. The input shaft and the countershaft in the transmission are being turned. The drag of the gears slogging through the gear lube is what you are noticing.

The downside of pushing the clutch pedal in and then cranking the engine up is the ton or so of force you are generating to release the clutch has to be borne by the thrust cheeks of the crankshaft. Show time!
My pickup renovation is now about complete. In two weeks I will be
driving it to my first car show. There probably won't be many trucks there but about two hundred vehicles (no motorcycles) I'm told. I plan on having it as polished and clean as I know how to make it. I'm told the judges look at paint, interior, and engine compartment. My plans were to do a little touch up with paper towels and soft cloths after I get there. Can anyone share some tricks or insight as to what we can do to impress the judges and perhaps win a trophy? What products do you use? If I put up some history or ads by the truck will it help me? Thanks, John 53 Pickup |

Pictures indicate either a CJ5 with a hard top or a DJ5. The high
mounted rear view mirror on the left side makes it look like a DJ5. Is this two or four wheel drive? Left hand or right hand steering? Is the top bolted on the tub or welded in as a part of the body? The number you gave looks more like the engine casting number. The engine serial number, if the F-134, should be stamped on the water pump boss at the top front of the block, if some previous rebuild hasn't shaved them off. Someone refresh my memory. Isn't the serial number stamped on the frame rail on these somewhere? James P. The photos are already there under O'conner on the 2nd page +- #18.
The Jeep in question looks like a CJ5 with a hard top or a postal Jeep. There is a wiper on the r/h side. Could this indicate RHD.?
