Richard,
Yours was the winning clue. I pulled the dipstick and held it next to the
engine, It did not extend down below the block so I swaped it for the longer
one in the other FC.
Thanks'

Did you put the oil down the dipstick tube or into the vent on the rocker
cover? It shouldn't matter, since the oil from the rockers drains down to
the pan. If you put it in the rocker cover, I suppose it is possible it
didn't get down to the pan, but I've never seen that happen and have a hard
time imagining what could cause it. All four drain holes would have to be
plugged. Maybe the wrong head gasket?

using flushing oil. It takes a few hours of running to blacken the oil.

Greetings,

I have dumped 6 quarts of oil into the F head engine in my 57

it still is not registering on the dip stick.
The service manual said that the capacity is 4 qt. (with
filter change).
there is no visible oil leak on the engine. Some oil is
leaking from the
air filter. No oil in the coolant. No smoke.
Could I have some sort of high capacity oil pan?
A short dip stick (easy there! we don't know each other that well yet
;-))
Should I just keep pouring oil in until it shows on the stick?

I have run the engine for a total of 5 minutes in 30 second sessions.
Can anyone recommend some sources for fuelpump/vacume pump rebuild or
replacement as well as electrical wiper conversions for FC 150's?

By the way, I have a 1948 CJ2A for sale. It is in excellent condition and
is really cute (sorry, guys). It was part of my Dad's estate and my
daughter wanted it because it reminded her of her Grandfather. In the
meantime, she has acquired her own car and the Jeep just kind of sits there.
It runs, has a new top (plus other things) and I'm just putting this out
there on the "web" to see if there's any interest. If there is, please
e-mail me; if not, oh well.

Thanks for all the suggestions! would you believe that it had the wrong dipstick!

I grabed the stick out of the non-running (yet) FC 150 and its about 3 or 4 qts.
longer, what would that be in inches? <g>. With the new dip stick it's over full,
which it should be given that I put 6 qts in 4+ system.

I am replacing the fuel pump (combo fuel/vacume) with a new fuel only pump
because the diaphram is shot on the old pump. Everyone tells me the pump is
rebuildable BUT the diaphrame is no longer available. Is this true?

I have seen oil return holes plugged to the point they would not allow oil to
return without a positive pressure applied. This caused the valve cover
gaskets to leak but they had apparently run the engine for quite some time.
This was on a Ford 289 V8. There was so much build up of carbon that when we
took off the valve cover you could not see the rocker arms. They were covered
to the point that it looked like the valve cover was still on. I don't know
if that's what your problem is but I sure hope not.

Steps - 1952 Willys

Mark Peterson

Richard G.,

Thanks for the info on the steps. You're right - Colorado is a little too
far from Austin, TX especially without an overdrive in my Willys pickup. A
guy in Minneapolis told me that he didn't see a lot of these steps on the
pickups because they got banged up easily or rusted through. I like your
version better - it seems to make more sense that they didn't offer them
after 1950. Mark Peterson

Hi Rick S.,

Sounds like you got a bunch of the rain that we got in Austin. I
appreciate your help with locating and "donors". Let me know if you get to
Houston. Do you happen to know if Willys pickups came stock with tail
lights. I put on my own lights but they're in the way of where the PTO
comes out. Mark Peterson.

Re: 1952 Willys Pickup - steps

Richard Grover

About those steps, I think we came to the conclusion a couple of weeks ago
in a discussion here, that they were on all trucks up until the style
changes in 1950. We found one truck that was later than 50 with steps, but
we couldn't determine if they were stock or not. It would be easy to take
some steps from an older truck and put them on your 52, all you need is a
donor. Somebody said he saw a couple of parts trucks in Colorado, but that's
too far away for me (in Arizona) so I bet it's too far for you too.

Greetings,

I have a 1952 Willys pickup that I bought from a rancher in TX about
7
years ago. I use it as a work vehicle for hauling brush, pulling stumps,
etc. I'm in the process of installing an original rear PTO unit. I plan
to use it for digging post-holes on a small piece of property I have West
of Austin, TX. I haven't fixed it up too nicely for fear I'll never use it
if I do. I am looking for a 26-tooth Overdrive unit that I can install on
my truck. I'm looking for a reasonably priced used unit. Also, I'm looking
for the small running boards that fit between the rear fenders and doors.
If I could find someone who had a an original rust free cab I might
consider purchasing it so that I could replace the one I have without
suffering from a large amount of downtime. Does anybody know where I might
be able to track some of these "goodies" down? Thanks for your help. Mark
