Yours was the winning clue. I pulled the dipstick and held it next to the engine, It did not extend down below the block so I swaped it for the longer one in the other FC. Thanks' Willy Richard Grover wrote: From: Richard Grover <grover@...> |

is really cute (sorry, guys). It was part of my Dad's estate and my daughter wanted it because it reminded her of her Grandfather. In the meantime, she has acquired her own car and the Jeep just kind of sits there. It runs, has a new top (plus other things) and I'm just putting this out there on the "web" to see if there's any interest. If there is, please e-mail me; if not, oh well. -----Original Message-----

I grabed the stick out of the non-running (yet) FC 150 and its about 3 or 4 qts. longer, what would that be in inches? <g>. With the new dip stick it's over full, which it should be given that I put 6 qts in 4+ system. I am replacing the fuel pump (combo fuel/vacume) with a new fuel only pump because the diaphram is shot on the old pump. Everyone tells me the pump is rebuildable BUT the diaphrame is no longer available. Is this true? Willy Rick48CJ2A@... wrote: From: Rick48CJ2A@... |
Steps - 1952 Willys
Mark Peterson
Richard G.,
Thanks for the info on the steps. You're right - Colorado is a little too far from Austin, TX especially without an overdrive in my Willys pickup. A guy in Minneapolis told me that he didn't see a lot of these steps on the pickups because they got banged up easily or rusted through. I like your version better - it seems to make more sense that they didn't offer them after 1950. Mark Peterson |

Hi Rick S.,
Sounds like you got a bunch of the rain that we got in Austin. I appreciate your help with locating and "donors". Let me know if you get to Houston. Do you happen to know if Willys pickups came stock with tail lights. I put on my own lights but they're in the way of where the PTO comes out. Mark Peterson. |

in a discussion here, that they were on all trucks up until the style changes in 1950. We found one truck that was later than 50 with steps, but we couldn't determine if they were stock or not. It would be easy to take some steps from an older truck and put them on your 52, all you need is a donor. Somebody said he saw a couple of parts trucks in Colorado, but that's too far away for me (in Arizona) so I bet it's too far for you too. Rick G. www.public.asu.edu/~grover/willys PS. Subject: [WT] 1952 Willys Pickup From: Mark Peterson <mjpeterson@...> Greetings, I have a 1952 Willys pickup that I bought from a rancher in TX about 7 years ago. I use it as a work vehicle for hauling brush, pulling stumps, etc. I'm in the process of installing an original rear PTO unit. I plan to use it for digging post-holes on a small piece of property I have West of Austin, TX. I haven't fixed it up too nicely for fear I'll never use it if I do. I am looking for a 26-tooth Overdrive unit that I can install on my truck. I'm looking for a reasonably priced used unit. Also, I'm looking for the small running boards that fit between the rear fenders and doors. If I could find someone who had a an original rust free cab I might consider purchasing it so that I could replace the one I have without suffering from a large amount of downtime. Does anybody know where I might be able to track some of these "goodies" down? Thanks for your help. Mark Peterson. |

On every wiring diagram for these trucks I've ever seen, there's

only one tail light. I also looked at one this summer, a 48 with no modifications with the exception of a tractor type seat and a lot of rust. Even still had the old floormats, or remnants, at least. It had one taillight on the drivers side, on a bracket sticking off the frame a few inches. What little bit I know.. Matt

There is a couple of pictures of Bernie Daily's truck at Rick Grovers Gallery: These pictures seem to show a truck with double tail lights. I've never seen this setup before but that doesn't mean it isn't stock. Chris Croyle"s truck at: is setup like my truck. The tail lights are mounted on a simple L bracket to the side of the frame. The only problem with my truck is that one bracket is forward and one is backwards. The brackets fit equally well both ways so which way is right? Does anyone know for sure? Rick S |

In the F4-134 in my pickup, the dip stick virtually touches the bottom of

the pan. If there is oil in the pan, I can see it on the dipstick. When I pull the oil pan, the dipstick is sticking down below the bottom of the block about 6" or however deep the pan is. I think I may put a little over 4 quarts in mine, but I can see the oil on the dipstick after a quart. The level rises about 1/2" with each quart. Either your pan is different, or your dipstick is different. Did you put the oil down the dipstick tube or into the vent on the rocker cover? It shouldn't matter, since the oil from the rockers drains down to the pan. If you put it in the rocker cover, I suppose it is possible it didn't get down to the pan, but I've never seen that happen and have a hard time imagining what could cause it. All four drain holes would have to be plugged. Maybe the wrong head gasket? The oil in the airfilter is separate, not part of the engine oil. Rick G. www.public.asu.edu/~grover/willys PS. Sometimes really clean oil is hard to see on the dipstick, like after using flushing oil. It takes a few hours of running to blacken the oil. -----Original Message----- |
