Re: COLOR TALLY POLL -- PICK YOUR HAT COLOR HERE PLEASE #poll

?
Ok.. while we’re still a bit away from the minimum order of 30 (I think we’re at like 24) ?–I talked the?owner into an agreement?that he?charges more per cap and I only have to buy 30 of them INSTEAD OF 48.??
?
So I guess the best way to work this is if you still?want a cap you can paypal to?my email?address $26. + 4.50 shipping. If you’re buying two add another $1.00 for shipping. I haven’t factored in the cost of padded packing?envelops but can’t be that much.
?
I have to order them yet.....?I need?OVER?half the orders/$ in before I foot the rest (on a hope that those who committed to ordering actually DO follow thru...)?
?
IMPORTANT?–MAKE SURE YOU PLEASE TELL ME YOUR COLOR CHOICE AGAIN IN YOUR PAYPAL NOTE ALONG WITH YOUR MAILING ADDRESS!!!!
?
If you’d prefer to mail the check please understand I have to deposit that and wait till it clears before sending your cap.? Shoot me a message and I’ll send you my physical address.
?
I will do my BEST or fulfill the colors you want of the most popular?Black, Olive, Khaki and Yellow.?The more orders paid with color choices?the accurate I can order all of them.
?
I’ll keep y’all posted.?

Remove the pop-up vent on the cowl. Two bolts from underneath, IIRC. Once that is out of the way, you'll have pretty decent access to the cables and wiper posts.?

Re: Weber 32/36 DGV

Curt,

I was hoping someone with actual expertise would? respond, but no.?? I don't know if? you're having trouble with? the? Carter now- my experience:
The Carter YF? looked right, but was numbered? for a 216 Chevrolet.? After I did a "rebuild", with a kit? from? Mike's carburetor, there was a problem? with? the idle/low speed jet basically not working (this could have been a problem? for years).? Mike told me there was a vacuum leak? somewhere; 859 tries later, could not find it.?? A small miracle happened- two Carters with the right numbers showed? up? on Ebay at the same time.? I'd been looking for years.? I steeled myself and offered $45 for each one, I think; won them both; there were enough parts between the two? to make one complete; put in another kit; no vacuum leak, hooray!? Proper idle, what a concept!? Moving parts around between the carburetors,? the vacuum leak moved around with the carburetor top. Can't see a problem with it, but the problem is fixed anyway.

I worked with Mike's carburetor to determine, or experiment, with a smaller main jet, to see if this could lean things up some.?? I did the bookshelf thing- went smaller until the engine starved for fuel-? and went back up in size one notch.? I don't remember, but I think the jet in one of the properly numbered carburetors is what's installed.?? In terms of the excess? fuel complaint, a friend who is a real mechanic explained that all? carbs from? these days cause the engine to run rich.? Also, if there is a leak in the rubber in the? accelerator pump assembly, thank you alcohol, a ton? of fuel can be pulled in.?

I don't recall anyone else on the list trying the Weber- if you do it, let us know how it goes.

I've seen the kits on Weber website for the 32/36 DGV carburator conversion for 134 engines.
The Carter YF is notorious for over fueling and fouling plugs. Yes I rebuilt it.
Wondering if a few of you have made this conversion, and what your opinions of it are.
I just happen to have one of these carbs taken off of a Triumph Spitfire when I installed dual SU's.
Wondering if installing it on the Willys is worthwhile.

I've completed the upload of 156 albums.? I processed large files with this site/application:? bulkresizephotos.com/.?? With it, I? was able to shrink 2-5Mb files down? to 240Kb or so.? All of the albums now use? 66 Mb of space.? We are trying to? stay? below 1Gb of storage, so we (may) have the option of a free group? for the year beginning next December.? The pictures show quite a bit of major surgery performed without? anesthetics.? Lots? of interesting and odd stuff.? If you poke around in the files (not the photos), there are diagrams for cutting? the wood strips for the wagons, and for making a glove compartment box, too.?? Right now, photos are not allowed in the? files directory, likely will change this setting.

I reset the size for attachments back up, so the next time Dr. Vern sends a selfie, you'll be able to see the details.?

The system puts all of the attachments into the first album displayed when one? goes to the albums section on the groups.io website.

If I've missed any messages? or doing/fixing something,? remind me again.? I think the work of? the move is complete, always? room for cleanup.

Re: MWC Update

Rod, what a great experience for three generations of your family. I can only guess at the changes your grandson will see on this planet.

All the best, Pavel up north.

My first post to this iteration of WillysTech didn't include the MWC. So here is a brief update.

When I first joined WT I had three CJ's: '46, '47, '48. The 47 was my first Jeep which had previously been owned by my son. We installed a Pinto engine. Eventually that CJ was sold back to my son and moved to south central CO. The 46 CJ was a retired, non-functioning "rock crawler" from the Fort Collins, CO area which I purchased for the working L 134 engine and misc. other parts which I needed for rebuilding the '48. The 48 was a barn-find literally in pieces in a barn in central KS. Over the years I depended on WillysTech for technical knowledge and for the light-hearted banter between several regulars. When WT drifted away I began to rely on theCJ2A forum.

Fast forward to the present. Virtually every part of the 48 CJ2A has been rebuilt. It was painted late summer 2018, the body re-assembled and wired with a Walcks harness. Runs great!

Over Thanksgiving all of our family gathered at our house in central KS, including my only grandson - 13 years old Elias whose family live in Chicago. The weather cooperated with highs in the low to mid 50's. I drove the CJ with Elias to the 60+ acre farm ground about 6 miles away which my wife inherited when her mother passed at age 103. My son followed us in my Ranger pickup. The soy beans on the field had recently been harvested which left closely cropped stubble and a smooth surface. I asked Elias if he wanted to drive the CJ - his first driving experience. Without hesitation he said yes. So his father gave him a brief lesson on how to operate a standard transmission, clutch, brake, accelerator and off they went in first gear around the field. About 45 minutes later, many practice starts, stops, and reversing they returned to my Ranger. After another quick lesson, this time about automatic transmissions, the Elias drove with his father around the field in the Ranger. Elias, with a big smile, announced this was the best Thanksgiving ever. And so it was. What could be better than learning to drive on a CJ2A.
