Re: [WT] Rattle can paint...

Greg Bryant

Here's the pricing from tower paint - it may have changed in the last 6
months.

Cost is $16.95 per can for 1-2 of each color, $14.95 for 3-5 of one
color and $12.95 for 6 or more of one color.

Shipping and handling is $8.95 for the first can and $.95 for each
additional can.

You know you can have a rattle made at any auto paint shop. They can
look up the color and give you the cans you want.

pumpkin orange color for the wheels?

Thanks!!

Re: diameter of headlight hole in jeep mb 1945

Alex, just a thought here, by the time you go rebuild the
smaller 5 inch headlight holes you might first try
buying another war grill ?
I see them several times each year at the Military Swap meets
on the east coast. Original, used grills range consistently
between $35 to $50
Enquire to guys on this list or enquire at www.g503.com

Are you sure the pumpkin color wasn't their "autumn wheat"? I've seen
it where it had faded to a nice pumpkin color.

Try the attached link and enter Willys with the '59 year and you'll see
autumn wheat - looks orange to me.

Thanks for the reply Robert and SF. I've looked at several websites
that I have saved over time for the color code for the pumpkin
orange color and can't find it. I think Willys called it "Sunset
Red". The only "red" I have found is called "Harvard Red" and it
looks too "red". I guess I could go down to the local auto paint
supply house and look at their color choices for one that I like.
If anyone has a pic of their orange wheels or has a color code I'd
be grateful!

Thanks again!!

Hi Alex,

If you want to go with a new MB grill, then look at WillysAcres.com. THey carry one for $100 I think. Not sure what you could do to make your light holes smaller, but the MB lights are, I think, about 9 inches across. I'll have to measure mine tonight to be sure. I'll let you know.

Good luck!

hello,
the p.o. at one point decided to install standard headlights and in so
doing went ahead and cut up the grille to allow them to fit. not a
great idea, but maybe it was at the time.
i would like to restore the grille openings to their former size but i
have no idea of the original diameter. if i can get that info and any
help on how to procede, it would be a great help. has anyone tried to
do this before, or is the grille beyond hope?
thank you, alex

Re: [WT] 43 CJ or MB

Chris Lange

Yep, that's a Ford script jeep. Willys did the same thing on the back of their jeep until the govt told them it was a war, and they shouldn't be advertising their product in such a manner.

The script jeeps are more rare now, so if you know where it is, I suggest you buy it back. And then sell it to me of course. :) HA!

The 43 Ford I had had the word FORD stamped into the rear, left of the tail gate above the tail light. Was this Jeep also known as a script Jeep?

Both Ford and Willys were contracted to make military Jeeps. The Ford is known as a GPW - G= General purpose, P=80 inch wheelbase, W= Willys design.

Ford identified their product by placing their logo on all the parts, and I do mean ALL. Bolts, heads, seats, etc.

So, yes, Willys and Ford made the same product at the same time.

Hi Kyle,

i just had the front and rear bumpers for my 1950 Willys Jeepster
straightened and rechromed by Denver Bumper Works

They did an outstanding job with 4 week turn around. The front bumper
has two bumperettes and a grill guard and everything went back
together perfectly, looks great and best of all the cost came in under
a kilobuck!

If it was 'Script' it was produced in '42, unless an older tub was unearthed in a warehouse.Willys used their block stencil type lettering in the same location on their tubs. The War Department told them to knock it off, too.

Script jeep had the Ford F scripted into all the parts. Yours most likely was done in this manner.

DOD frowned on any manufacturer advertising, and made Ford stop the practice.

I have heard that Willys did a similar marking, but can't confirm this.

Re: [WT] pitman arm installation question...

David,
I've found three different recommendations from three different
sources: "heavy gear oil" "90wt," and "140wt."

I didn't want to run the risk of seepage even thought the unit is now
sealed properly. I considered the semi-fluid synthetic grease route
but, after I re-read some old postings I thought your idea of the
600wt was a good solution...even if it was intended for knuckles!

The unit has a light coating of gear lube at friction point
too...I'll let you if I exspirience any ill-effects from the 600.
Thanks,
Matt

In WillysTech@..., "David Hoelzeman" <mathman@...> wrote:

That wasn't where I used the 600wt oil - I used it in the knuckles

manual - might have been a change in specifications by 1962 though.

all done to get a nice looking bumper, send it to a re-chroming

spending the $1200 to get a new looking shiny bumper, but would like
to pick the hive mind on what you all did. My neighbor works for
FedEx and can get decent ground shipping rates for me. The wagon
goes in to the shop for a new coat of paint this month too. Soon
I'll be able to post some pics of the progress being done. I even re-
