Re: [WT] L6-161 Lightning Motor Question...

Harold Miller

Thanks for the advice, I think I can grab it with one of those screw
removers, the ones that look like a nut.

My main concern was that the bolts appear to go thru the head and into the
block.

My L134 the thermostat housing does not go into the block; so I was not
expecting this one to .

I got all but these two bolts off and ready to take the head off.

Trying to see how bad the interior of the motor is. I can't spin it with a
socket and ratchet.

Hal

Hal-

I have had this problem on several bolts that were flush with the block...
I would try using an easy out, I use craftsman but I'm sure there are other
brands available. just drill the bolt a little and the easy out will do the
rest!
Hope this helps!

Subject: [WT] L6-161 Lightning Motor Question...

I have a '51 Willys Wagon; original motor and drive train. just starting to

tear down.

Trying to pull the head off my L6-161 motor and have all the head nuts off.

Won't come loose on the front.

Question is; do the thermostat housing bolts go all the way into the

block???

They broke off trying to take the housing out, but there is still about 3/8

of an inch sticking up above the head. If need be I can drill them out and

then re-tap later.

Any help welcomed.
