Callsign ID Badge with Texas Flag : Ham Crazy!, Ham Radio Gifts and Fun Stuff Amateur Radio Operators!
A couple years ago club members ordered badges with our names and call signs. Since we have many new members, I would like to see us wear our badges to meetings and to other events such as breakfasts and Field Day so we can get to know each other better. If you do not have a badge, you can order one from a number of sources. The one below has a Texas flag design that is very nice. Badges are often available at hamfests as well. https://www.hamcrazy.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=14_16&products_id=111 Lee KV5M

Vote on Creating a Subcommittee for Linking W5HVL Repeatertt
5
Following up on what Russ has said from the legal standpoint, there is nothing wrong with members getting together by email or otherwise to informally discuss club business. As a private organization we are not subject to the State Open Meetings law that limits discussions only at a public meeting to items on a published agenda. However, as a Texas non-profit corporation there ae some things we need to do to keep all our protections. The main one is limited liability, i.e., we members are not personally liable for the clubs debts and judgments so long as we conduct business in an orderly and formal way. If we run the club like the corporation does not exist, the courts will do the same. Any decision of this magnitude¡ªi.e., repeater linking¡ªmust be approved by the club at a scheduled meeting and recorded in the minutes. We can discuss it outside a meeting, but the decision itself must be made at a meeting. Any official committee to study an issue should also be appointed and approved at a meeting. Any committee formed by email has no official standing, atthough it can serve as an unofficial preliminary to an official committee. If an urgent issue comes up between meetings, the officers can act as a management committee to make a decision on behalf of the club. However, it must be presented at the next meeting for ratification. These are usually financial issues than cannot wait. Hope this helps. Lee KV5M

Vote on Creating a Subcommittee for Linking W5HVL Repeater
26
Dear WCARG Hamsters, We are holding a vote to determine whether to establish a subcommittee to explore linking our W5HVL repeater. This initiative aims to expand range for both local and emergency communications (EMCOM) operations, potentially enhancing our coverage and effectiveness. Your input is essential in shaping this decision. Please reply to this email with **"Yes"** or **"No"** to cast your vote. If approved, the subcommittee will research available options, pricing, and pros and cons, presenting their findings at the next club meeting. **Please note:** The W5HVL repeater would be disconnected during scheduled nets and other club events to ensure clarity and priority communications during these times. Hello! Chris asked me what I wanted to do for Mothers Day and I said ¡°Activate the Park¡± of course! SO. The Nelsons will be at Huntsville State Park at 11 and will probably stay only an hour and a half. We will be at the picnic table area about a mile into the park on the left. All are welcome to join! We would also appreciate anyone to help make QSOs so we can activate!

Emergency Preparedness!
5
Well if that wasn't on everyone's mind because of the Fair on Saturday, current weather conditions have probably made you consider your strategy and readiness! Come out Saturday for a little while or all 4 hours. They have asked exhibitors to drop things off and then park behind the prison museum. We have tables adjacent to a door so coax can be run out to antennas easily. We have room for you to set up and make contacts or just sit and visit together while we talk to attendees about ham radio. Bring your family! Or come on your own! We have no monthly meeting, this will be our gathering for the month. See you there!

Tornado Watch Until 4 & Enhanced Risk
Mother Nature has conjured up what could turn out to be a very bad day across a broad swath of central and southeast Texas. The attached Day-1 convective outlook image from SPC shows that Madison and Walker counties are near the center line of an enhanced risk (Level 3 of 5) area and all severe weather forms are possible including large hail, damaging winds, excessive rainfall, and possible strong tornadoes. In addition to the enhanced severe risk, a flash flood watch is in effect north of IH 10. A strong storm system will be moving across the region bringing scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms The environment is conducive to produce severe thunderstorms later this morning into the evening hours. Therefore, storms could become strong to severe as they move/develop across the region. All types of severe weather hazards arepossible today. There is an elevated risk of tornadoes, possibly becoming strong, along with damaging winds, large hail and localized heavy rainfall. Estimated rainfall totals of up to 1 to 3 inches are expected, with isolated 3 to 6 inches in the Watch area. The best window for severe weather and heavy rainfall is from 11 AM to 10 PM this evening. A few showers/storms (non-severe) will still be possible overnight. However, even non-severe storms can drop considerable rain in a short period of time. Last night, roughly between 10 and 11 PM, my automatic gauge located three miles east of Buc-ee's in Madison County picked up 3.11 inches with its internal computer occasionally measuring a rainfall rate of more than 13 inches an hour. Fortunately, bursts of that magnitude were short lived. WEDNESDAY: Showers, locally heavy and thunderstorms will continue early Wednesday morning, with the best focus for along the coast. Strong to severe storms and locally heavy rain will be possible, mainly in the morning hours as the main cold front moves through. Jim Robinson,, W5ZYX Get BlueMail for Desktop
