Hm... I don't see it announced in the UK.

Re: PECO SL-U8364 #6 Diamond Crossing UNIFROG

I thought of that Don, but he said that he had a pause with the Dual Frog Juicer disconnected.? So I figured his problem was other than the FJ's.

Sounds like the EB is tripping before the frog juicer. Check the trip timing settings. The frog juicer should be powered directly from the booster¡ not from any EB.

Re: PECO SL-U8364 #6 Diamond Crossing UNIFROG

Hi Tom,
?
I installed one of those diamond crossings back about the time they came out (about 4 years ago).? I believe the dual Frog Juicer has a jumper where you can link its two FJ's to work together.? Have you done that?? ? (I'm using a two sections of an Hex FJ and you can pair up the FJ's and that is what I did.)? I know I mentioned this jumper in my initial post, so I presume you have done that.
?
People where having problems with wheels shorting out on the frog of the early Unifrog products.? So they made an improvement.? You can see an example of the improvement on my website at:
?
?
I clearly point out the improvement.? Most of my Unifrog product that I installed on my layout is the original Unifrog.? I assume that Peco made the improvement to all their Unifrog products, but I don't know that for sure.
?
The problem with the original Unifrog was that the frog was too tiny and wheels were shorting out on the rails leaving the frog.? The improvement lengthens the frog solving this problem.
?
You could cut the rails leaving the frog and make it look like the improved Unifrog.? But I'm sure this is easier said than done.? An easier approach is to paint a dab of clear nail polish on the rails leaving the frog to insulate them a bit.? While not permanent, it is less drastic.

Re: PECO SL-U8364 #6 Diamond Crossing UNIFROG

Allan
?
I have a Dual Frog Juicer from Tam Valley.
?
Connected the two frogs to the fog ports on the DFJ
?
The other two wires go to the DCC Bus Line.
?
I now have powered frogs.
?
Only problem is on one leg of the Diamand Cross Over the train stops? and my EB1 for that bus line starts flashing.
?
I disconnected the DFJ from the bus line and the train runs thru? but every so often it stops just outside of the diamond crossing I then give the train a push and it continues.
?
So with the DFJ I get a short and without the DFJ I get a pause.
?
Any ides or suggestions?

Re: New DCC Book Out

Allen, I just ordered the book. Knowing your dedication to DCC, and your excellent website, I am grateful you published this. It will be required reading for members of the Amarillo Railroad Musuem! Jerry Michels

New DCC Book Out

For those that have been asking when will my book be out or just want something tangible, my book is now out!

?

This book explains the basics of DCC systems and components, provides guidelines for choosing and installing a system, and shows how to install and program decoders.

?

It can be purchased wherever you have purchased Firecrown Media (formerly Kalmbach Media) publications.? Here is a link for Trains.com with more on the book:

Re: Programming track

I have a Spur Track that I put the locomotive on for programming. That way I can still have trains running at the same time. The Spur track is attached to my Digitrax PR4. I added a toggle switch so I could connect the Spur to the mainline or the PR$. The PR4 connects with your computer using a USB cable. I installed JMRI on the laptop. It will allow you to set just about everything on the locomotive.

If you program a locomotive, it will retain the programming you do even after you turn off they power.? It has what is the equivalent of a flash drive for your computer.?

What is a simple way to make a programming track? If I program a loco and shut off system do I need to re-program said loco?
Thanks,

Re: Walthers new single crossover

I haven't seen one of these turnouts to examine, but I would think it would already be gapped.? To be sure, test it with a digital multimeter.
?
You specifically referred to signaling.? So I presume you already have it working on your layout.? If you do, you are probably good to go.? If the signaling implementation you are planning requires gaps in places not already provided by Walthers, then you may have to do more.? Let your digital multimeter tell you what you need to know.

I was sent several Walthers single crossovers. ?For signaling purposes do I need to cut gaps on the crossover section? ?If so, where?

Re: PECO SL-U8364 #6 Diamond Crossing UNIFROG

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

From Peco info¡

The wiring of these new turnouts is a development of both the Insulfrog and Electrfrog designs. The stock rails are wired to the center rails at the factory, which in turn are connected to the corresponding frog-rail. This means the turnout is completely live(except for the tip of the frog) with no extra wiring required. If the turnout is being used as a switch to isolate a section of track then it is a simple job to remove the wire that joins the center rail and stock rail?and it will work like a current Insulfrog.

There are no turnouts involved with this PECO Unifrog Diamond Crossing? ?

Re: PECO SL-U8364 #6 Diamond Crossing UNIFROG

Tom, how are you controlling the turnouts ov the crossover? If there are 2 SPDT switches associated with those motors use them to selectively power the frogs. No other equipment needed.
