Storm Class 6
If anyone is interested or wants to help out, I reached out to the NWS in Springfield as our last 2 Storm Spotting Classes were scrubbed due to....yup you guessed it, WEATHER. I asked them if they had slides we might use to do our own spotter class. Some of us have been to 30 of them. Mostly the same info. They are going to call me back but seemed hip on the idea. I will keep everyone posted as this develops. It might not be needed but I thought why not ask. If anyone has input, please let me know. Thank you. Kevin KA9TAX

Spring Parks on the Air Weekend 2
April 19th and 20th will be Support Your Parks weekend for anyone interested in POTA. I was able to participate in one of these weekends last year and achieve approximately 250 contacts in just a few hours at two different parks. The bands were jam packed with activators and the weather that weekend was perfect!! Tons of fun!! If you're unable to get out to a park, you can always be a hunter from your home and give all the activators the contacts they need! I don't know what I'm going to do yet, but as long as it isn't raining, I'll probably set up somewhere. If you make plans, be sure and share!!

Simplex 15 Apr 2025 20:00CDT PLEASE IGNORE PREVIOUS POST
Steve will be net control. Third Tuesday at 20:00 hours is the reserved time for the club to try simplex nets. Last month See notes we discussed whether to keep the monthly simplex. A final decision either way was not reached because we were absorbed testing 2M SSB. Since no one was vehemently opposed to a monthly simplex, I'll monitor the following frequencies and we will go from there. I still want to get going on JJ's idea about the club hosting an HF net. 144.15 LSB This is in the band plan without stepping on the National Calling Frequency. 145.250 FM -0.6Mhz offset and CTCSS 110.9, our local repeater, will be the backup frequency. Rick Donaldson Apr 1 READ IN APP From the FCC News Line: The Federal Communications Commission announced today that it will soon ban a wide range of communications equipment due to interference that this equipment is causing to Starlink communications satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The banned equipment includes a range of legacy analog-type circuitry that, according to the Commission, has "lost relevance" and constitutes "an archaic electromagnetic nuisance." Under the proposed Commission action, banned equipment will include all regenerative, super-regenerative, and direct conversion receivers. Thanks for reading Ham Radio for Preppers! Upcoming Workshop
As part of our preparations for the upcoming Technician class, we’re excited to host an Introduction to Amateur Radio Workshop on Saturday, April 12th, from 9 am to 12 pm at the Lybyer Enhanced Technology Center on the Missouri State University-West Plains campus. This three-hour workshop will be an opportunity for us to discuss and showcase various aspects of amateur radio operations. I understand that this is a short notice, but we would greatly appreciate any assistance anyone can provide. As amateur radio operators, we’re well-versed in the unique ways we can communicate using different bands and equipment. I’m eager to showcase as much of this knowledge as possible during this event. The primary objective of this workshop is to attract as many people as possible, answer their questions, and encourage them to sign up for our class, which will commence two weeks later. Since the workshop will be drop-in, having as many volunteers set up and available to assist attendees will be beneficial. I haven’t had the chance to discuss this with Mike yet, but perhaps we could even bring the trailer over to the event that day. I believe the emergency communication aspect might be a significant draw for potential attendees. We’ll begin promoting this event and our class the next couple of days, so please keep an eye out for information on your email and social media platforms. A special ‘Thank You’ to Cathy Boys, who received her technician license at last year’s class, and her team at MSU for helping promote these events and make a classroom available for our class. We look forward to working with her team at the Office of Workforce Development and Community Education to provide these events to our community.

Missouri QSO Party 3
The Missouri QSO Party is coming up on April 5th and 6th. The goal is to help other radio amateurs outside Missouri work as many counties as possible, and Missouri amateurs to work other states and countries. You can find all the rules at the link below. There’s a section on the website where you can register what counties and modes you plan to work on what days. Check it out! There’s already someone who’s registered to operate both CW and SSB from most of every county in southern Missouri over the two days. I need to take a closer look at the rules, but I think everyone can work from wherever they want and add our club call to their log when they submit it to create a club score (you need at least 3 submissions). It’ll definitely be a great way to make a ton of contacts that weekend! Hopefully everyone will be able to participate in one way or another!! https://www.w0ma.org/index.php/missouri-qso-party

Steve will be net control. I dropped the ball at the last meeting when I failed to add this subject to the agenda. We can discuss during the net. If you can't join tonight, but want to contribute an idea please reply to this post. I'll monitor the thread and report your input to the net. Long story short, back in 2024 JJ had a good suggestion to run an HF net of our own. We settled at the time on this VHF net on the third Tuesday of each month. The practice never became routine so I would like discuss the club's interest in continuing this net and whether to start an HF net. Steve
