Simplex 18 Mar 2025 20:00CDT; Primary 146.520. Secondary 146.460.
Steve will be net control. I dropped the ball at the last meeting when I failed to add this subject to the agenda. We can discuss during the net. If you can't join tonight, but want to contribute an idea please reply to this post. I'll monitor the thread and report your input to the net. Long story short, back in 2024 JJ had a good suggestion to run an HF net of our own. We settled at the time on this VHF net on the third Tuesday of each month. The practice never became routine so I would like discuss the club's interest in continuing this net and whether to start an HF net. Steve

HF Nets / Simplex Nets and other stuff.
There is a Missouri ARES net every Sunday at 2pm. The net takes place on 7.263 Mhz or 3.963 Mhz depending on propagation. If 40 meters doesn't work, they move to 80 meters. Net control will call for check-in's by region. We are region G. You'll also be asked to provide your county. I'm sure you'll be able to listen to other stations to hear how to check in. In speaking with Don from the Ozark County club, there are only a few from region G that check in. We'd love to see region G better represented and test our HF communications as far as emergency communications are concerned. Also, the Missouri Traffic Net occurs daily at 5:30pm on either of the frequencies listed above, the the primary is 80 meters (3.963Mhz). Check in if you're available. Also, I mentioned that I've been communicating with Don, who is the president of the Amateur Radio Club of the Ozarks in Ozark County. Some of their recent facebook posts had captured my attention where they had been testing simplex communications via 2 meter SSB. Up until this last week, I didn't own a radio capable of SSB on 2 meters!! Their plan was simply to see what kind of communications they could achieve on side band and possibly use that as a back haul to talk longer distances in the event repeaters aren't operational and 2 meter FM simplex doesn't cut it. An example would be that I might be able to talk simplex with Steve who doesn't live too far from me, but Steve can't talk via simplex to Mike who lives just north of the Arkansas border. Via side band, Mike and I might be able to talk and relay Steve's messages even though we're further apart. It's not a perfect example, but maybe you get the point. Anyway, I'm excited and looking forward to the opportunity to work with our neighbors, make more "ham buddies" as my wife would say, and improve our ability to communicate in times of need. If you have suggestions, please let me know!

Tuesday Night Meeting
3
Our monthly meeting is at 6pm Tuesday night at the Howell County EOC. Unfortunately, I won¡¯t be able to attend due to a work related event. Steve, our club secretary and half way decent guy has volunteered (more like drew the short straw) will be moderating the meeting in my absence. I have passed my agenda along to him which has several topics to discuss as we move into spring & summer. My apologies for the scheduling conflict. Up until Friday, I was told this event was Wednesday. Oh well¡ can¡¯t win them all. As a result, we¡¯ll postpone our discussion / demonstration on HF antennas until next month as I don¡¯t want to dump too much on Steve at a short notice.

CHIRP that will NOT program your radio
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/software/new-chirp-tool-uses-audio-tones-to-transfer-data-between-devices/ This may be a fun thing to play with, but I post it more as a reminder that all our devices have microphones that may be listening, even if you didn't intentionally configure it or the latest application you installed from a play store didn't ask permission. https://news.itsfoss.com/android-open-source-ham-radio/ When I opened the bleepingcomputer link I was holding out hope that since our Android phones can now function as a shortwave radio, maybe we could program them over audio. Cool, but not yet.

New Yaesu Mobiles
3
Recently, Yaesu has released a few new mobiles with a new audio digital signal processing feature. The feature appears to do an excellent job of cleaning noise off analog signals. I¡¯ve seen a couple videos and have been impressed, but just happened to run across this one and thought I would share it. Pretty awesome feature if you ask me. https://youtu.be/zPKM8cW5CoA?si=vV5Fl0CZE2R9rOq8
