CATEGORICAL AUTOCORRELATION: RCT analysis with 4 groups
Dear UCINET group,? ? I am working on a relational contingency table analysis looking at the?associations between four groups.? ? One type of node (Y), split into two groups based on their position in the network (core and periphery) and another two groups based on attribute X and non-X.? These groups are mutually exclusive.? I want to test if the association from Y to X is consistent from the core to the margin of the network or if there are different patterns of?association based on Y's position in the network.? ? I created a NodeAtt file with two columns, the ID and the attribute column, recoding each node as either 1, 2,3,4 (i.e. core, periphery, X, non-X).? ? ? Problem: UCINET automatically turns each category of the variable into 4 separate dummy variables and only considers the first dummy variable in the contingency table.?
How do I get UCINET to consider all the categories for the RCT analysis? And secondly, am I going about this in the right way, in choosing RCT analysis for this type of question??
Thanks for all your help UCINET group! ? Cheers, Mathew |
2-Mode Core/Periphery Data
Can one use a mixture of continuous data with binary data in a 2-mode core-periphery analysis? UCINET crashes when I do that but if I remove the continuous data (all ranged from 0-1) UCINET is fine. However, I do not want to abandon those continuous data. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Re: MRQAP
Am humbled that you are one of the people responding to my question. Really humbled. To answer your query, data collection was done by asking on sharing of knowledge among people in a water service system. That is, questions were asked on who and who regards to types of relationships and interactions in the service system that necessitated sharing of beneficial knowledge for effective water supply. Re: MRQAP
开云体育As in all regression, the r-square tells you how well you are predicting. In your case, it is exceptionally high, so you are predicting with near-perfect accuracy. That’s not always a good thing. It suggests that one or more of your independent variables are basically synonymous with your dependent variable. Is there anything artifactual in your data collection that might be causing this very high correlation? For example, it looks like the dependent variable is knowledge sharing. Did you perhaps only ask the sharing question about alters that the respondent had a relationship with? That would create a very high correlation between your X variables and your Y. ? steve ? Re: Attribute transformation question
开云体育Narmin, your question isn’t specific enough to be answerable. But in case it helps, I would work with your attributes in excel, and then cut and paste them into spreadsheet editor or the dl editor in ucinet. ? steve ? From: ucinet@...

Flow Betweenness
Hello Everyone, I would like to ask about the Flow Betweenness calculation in Ucinet, it gives in its product two different versions of solutions, one is old and the other one is new starting from version 5.2.0.0. Could anyone explain what is the conceptual difference between them? Is there any chance that one of them is the Random Walk Betweenness? Thank you! Kind Regards, Robert |

tenure track asst prof position
开云体育The Management Dept. at the University of Kentucky has a tenure-track job opening at the Asst. Prof. level. This is a very networky department that houses the LINKS Center for Social Network Analysis and includes me, Dan Brass, Wally Ferrier, Dan Halgin, Zhi Huang, Rose Kim, Joe Labianca, Huiwen Lian, Ajay Mehra and Scott Soltis. Strange as it may seem, we would love to hire yet another network researcher. Teaching load, salary, research funding and quality of local restaurants are all very competitive. ? Bug in Ego composition routine?
Hi,
I need to analyze the ego network composition for a 7 categories attribute, for a network at approx 2900 nodes. The routine (Network > Ego Networks > Egonet Composition > Categorical Alter Attributes) keeps crashing. An output file is created nonetheless, but the results it contains do not correspond with the Netdraw visualizations of ego networks. Anyone else experiencing this problem? It looks like it's a bug, but perhaps there is something wrong with my data. I'm using version 6.681 (latest); The same thing happens on my windows machine and on my Linux machine under Wine; The routine would not work under an older version either (v6.661). Thanks for any help! JP |
Source of Wolfe primates?
Hi! Im looking for a source ref for the Wolfe primate data (WOLF) that comes with Ucinet. It is used as an example in Borgatti & Everett's core-periphery article (2000) but only with the Ucinet software as a reference (Borgatti et al., 1999 => [Ucinet5 ref]), and the corresponding example doc is not very informative:? I have gone through Linda Wolfe's work but haven't find it - though I don't have access to all of it so its possible I have missed it. Or is this co-occurrence-at-river-in-Florida data only made available through Ucinet? Lots of thanks in advance! /Carl Nordlund |
