We have several hundred subscribers on this list, so when you are thinking of posting a message to the list make sure it is something that is suitable for all audiences and of interest to all, or at least most, of the people on the list.? Since this is a contra dance group almost anything to do with contra dance should be fine.? Discussions of events involving dance and music and other community activities may also be on-topic.? There are certainly other things that will be of interest to the majority of the people on the list, but give it some thought before you hit send.? Remember that replies go to the whole list, so if you want to reply to just one person edit the To: address in your email program.
If you signed up for the email list at one of our dances your subscription will be set by default to Special Notices Only.? That means you will only get announcements of upcoming dances and other events.? If you wish to be involved in discussions on the email list you can change your subscription settings by using the control links at the bottom of every message.

Marking a Message "Spam" Might Automatically Remove You From the Group

FREE contra dance on Friday

Our next contra dance will be this Friday, May 2 at the Phillips Recreation Center in Urbana. This will be Jonathan Sivier's Super Swinging Seventieth Soiree. Admission is FREE so come and join us.
The band will be The Young and the Fretless with Tom Bassett, Lyle Konigsberg, Rolf Pendall & Rebecca Grosser. The caller will be Karen Jackson from St. Louis. As usual there will be a short introduction to contra dance at 7:30 and the dance will start at 8. Bring your friends to join in the fun and snacks to share at the break. contra dance at Phillips on Friday

Our next contra dance will be on Friday, April 18. In a change from our usual pattern of holding the 2nd dance of the month at Channing-Murray, this dance will be held at the Phillips Center. This is due to some scheduling conflicts at Channing-Murray. We should be returning to our usual pattern next month.
The band this week will be Birdhouse Hollow with Qi Yang & Wren Eisenhauer. The caller will be Georges Augustin from Chicago. As usual there will be a short introduction to contra dance at 7:30 and the dance will start at 8. Bring your friends to join in the fun and snacks to share at the break. Jonathan |

The dance is being sponsored by Claire and Matt, so admission is free. The band this week will be Too Old To Be Controlled with Claudia and Gary Kaufman & Dave Kuntz from the Bloomington-Normal area. contra dance weekend in Ann Arbor
I've been asked to pass along information on an event in May in Ann Arbor. They are holding their Apple Blossom Bliss weekend on May 9-11. It sounds like it will be a lot of fun. If you are looking for a chance to travel to a contra dance weekend this spring, give it some thought.

We always need people to help out before, during and after the contra dances. So we need volunteers to step up to keep things going. Some jobs only take a few minutes, but are none-the-less important. We have a sign up page for people indicate what they are able to help with for our dances. Take a look and see if you can help out at some of the upcoming dances. We'll send additional reminders prior to dances in the future.

an apology
Dear Urbana Country Dancers,
During the second half of the contra dance on March 7 one of the dances I was calling began to fall apart. I attempted to fix the problems with the dance. Whether or not this was a good idea in general, I know I was wrong in the way I handled the situation. I should have just stopped the dance and either started again or moved on to another dance. I know that I spoiled many peoples' enjoyment of the dance and caused distress for some. I am very sorry for the way I handled things. It was never my intention to harm or alarm anyone. I messed up and I sincerely apologize to everyone for what happened and promise to do better in the future. Sincerely, Jonathan Sivier |

There is a contra dance this Friday, March 21 at the Channing-Murray Foundation. The band will be the Dangerous Contraband with Sam Atkinson (fiddle), Henry Kraatz (fiddle), Stella Faux (fiddle), Beau Barber (mandolin), Connor Lasalle (guitar), and Mike Atkinson (bass). The caller will be Kristi Emilsson. There will be a short introduction to contra dance at 7:30pm and the dance will start at 8. Bring your water bottle and a snack to share at the break!

We have a contra dance this week at the Phillips Center on Friday, March 7. The music will be provided by Miriam Larson and Matt Turino and I will be the caller. The music will be great and I'll try to provide some fun dances. As usual there will be a short introduction to contra dance at 7:30 and the dance will start at 8.
