We have several hundred subscribers on this list, so when you are thinking of posting a message to the list make sure it is something that is suitable for all audiences and of interest to all, or at least most, of the people on the list.? Since this is a contra dance group almost anything to do with contra dance should be fine.? Discussions of events involving dance and music and other community activities may also be on-topic.? There are certainly other things that will be of interest to the majority of the people on the list, but give it some thought before you hit send.? Remember that replies go to the whole list, so if you want to reply to just one person edit the To: address in your email program.
If you signed up for the email list at one of our dances your subscription will be set by default to Special Notices Only.? That means you will only get announcements of upcoming dances and other events.? If you wish to be involved in discussions on the email list you can change your subscription settings by using the control links at the bottom of every message.

Marking a Message "Spam" Might Automatically Remove You From the Group
If you mark a message from this group (or any groups.io group) as spam, either intentionally or accidentally via your email's spam filter, the system may automatically remove you from the group. Check your spam folder regularly, and never delete a groups.io message directly from your spam folder (move it to your inbox first). If you are removed, check your inbox for a resubscribe link.

contra dance this Friday in Urbana

Our July contra dance will be this Friday, July 22 at the Channing-Murray Foundation, 1209 W Oregon St. in Urbana. The band will be Brenda & Friends and Gail Hintze from Chillicothe will be the caller for the evening. This dance will feature gender-neutral calling.
There will be a short beginner lesson at 7:30pm and the dance will start at 8. Bring your water bottle and a snack to share at the break! We require that everyone wears a mask while inside the building and presents proof of up to date vaccination. That is the original vaccine and any boosters you are eligible for. Our August dance will be held at Channing-Murray on Friday, August 19, The band will be Acoustic Mayhem and I will be the caller. I hope everyone will come out and join us for some fun music and dance. Jonathan |

another option for some dancing this weekend

If you are looking for more chances for dancing this summer you can join us for an English Country dance on Sunday, July 10 at the Channing-Murray Foundation from 2 to 5 in the afternoon. As with the contra dances we are asking everyone to be able to show proof of vaccination and boosters and to wear a mask while indoors.
The Flatland Consort will be playing and Susan Burt and Jonathan Sivier will be leading the dances. Admission is $5 and as with contra dance no costume, partner or previous experience is needed. For info see the Central Illinois English Country Dancer's web page at Jonathan |

Male contra dancer tested COVID-19 positive Fri Jul 1 evening
Urbana Country Dancers, One of our male (Lark) contra dancers who attended our Fri Jun 24 dance tested COVID-19 positive Fri Jul 1 evening. He says it feels like a mild cold. These are the CDC guidelines: If you test positive after a dance, please let us know so that we can notify everyone. Stay healthy! |

updated summer dance dates

The August dance has been moved from August 26 to August 19 in order to avoid conflicting with the Sugar Hill Dance weekend. Here are the dates for our dances this summer. They are all on Friday evenings at 8 p.m. and will be held at the Channing-Murray Foundation in Urbana.

summer dance dates
We had a great dance last night with the Mean Lids and Gail Hintze. We are going to attempt to hold monthly dances this summer. Here are the dates.
Friday, June 24 Friday, July 22 Friday, August 26 The locations, bands and callers have yet to be confirmed. Depending on the COVID numbers and other factors some of these dates may have to be changed. However, you should put them on your calendar. There will be a contra dance this Friday, May 27 at the Channing Murray Foundation, 1209 W Oregon St. in Urbana. The band will be the Mean Lids with Miriam Larson, Ben Smith & Matt Turino. Gail Hintze from Chillicothe will be the caller for the evening. This dance will feature gender-free calling.
There will be a short beginner lesson at 7:30pm and the dance will start at 8. Bring your own water bottle and a snack to share at the break! It looks like the weather will be nice so we can go outside to eat our snacks. We require that everyone wears a mask while inside the building and presents proof of up to date vaccination. You are very welcome. It was great to see so many people that I haven't seen for a long time. I hope we can soon get back to holding dances on a regular basis.

Re: Message Policy Reply-To setting changed from "Group" to "Sender"
The downside of this in the most recent case would be that the only person who saw the replies to Michael's message about calling workshops would have been Michael. So we wouldn't know that anyone was interested and the people who replied would wonder why nothing ever happened about their interest in learning to call.
