New Orleans

I'm in New Orleans at a library that's about 20 miles away from the
city. It was a terrible windy trip - so windy that my arms were
tired
from struggling with the steering wheel! There HAS to be something I
can do to make the steering better. I'm used to the semi's, but the
gusts of wind are really scary sometimes. Maybe I need an alignment
or
can get some sort of stabilizer bar, or shocks, or SOMETHING. This
is
no fun to drive in the wind!!!!!!!!!!

At the conference, I had trouble parking the RV. No one wanted to
let
me park in their lot - even though it will fit in one parking space.
The Hilton parking lot (which was the hotel for the conference and
adjacent to the convention center) wanted to charge me $55.00 to park
for one day - yes you read it right.....DAY parking. They charged
cars $15.00/day. In addition, I finally found a lot to take my RV
and
was late for the presentation. I was the last of three to present so
it worked out OK. When I parked the RV there was a guy sleeping on
the ground up against the building where I parked. It took me an
hour
and a half to drive the 18 miles into the city because of the
traffic!

I'm sorry if anyone on this list is from New Orleans, but I find it
to
be a dangerous, dirty, depressing, and unfriendly city. I'll think
twice if I ever return here! Even the librarians were rude at the
library I'm at now! *sigh*

I'm filing this trip under "The Trip from you know where"!

Hi Zia,
Sorry to hear of your miserable trip.
I found that a rear stabilizer bar installed on my 1983 Dolphin has helped,
but the large amount of air displaced by the coach will always catch the wind
and make it more of a challenge to drive, especially without power steering.
Hang in there!

Hi Zia,

I am sorry your visit to New Orleans was so bad. I have not
thought what it would be like to park a camper in a city. I
parked mine in a bank parking lot recently, and it was not too
obtrusive.

I am concerned about the way your camper is pushed around by
the wind. I wish one of the club members could drive it to
compare it to their's. I have only had mine in a serious wind
once, and it kept me pretty busy. But mine has supplemental
air bags over the rear springs, and generally stays level on
the road. I still feel that 'push' when anything big passes
me.

I hope your trip home is more pleasant.

Jack R.

Zia, sorry to hear of your problems on your trip. You may want to
check with your local auto parts store to see if they carry a
Steering stabilizer that can be installed on the steering linkage of
your rig. These stabilizers look like a shock absorber and are
attached with brackets that are provided. They run about $40.00 and
are fairly easy to install. I had a 77 dodge, 23' class "C" that
would change lanes and buffett all over the place in a side wind. I
installed the stabilizer and it made a remarkable difference. I felt
more at ease and was able to relax a little more while driving. My 91
has one on it but not sure if it was an add on or orig. eqpt. It
handles fine.I have rear air shocks, but am thinking about adding air
bags after hearing others talk about their advantages. Good luck,
hope we can help with advice. Hope someone near you can help with the
problem, as we all need help on occasion. Stan in Michigan
