Re: TinySA Ultra screen misaligned
I received mine from R&L yesterday and immediately noticed the screen was mis-aligned with a tilt that cut off the upper left text.? What a relief it was to have this groups.io where I could learn that a) I was not the only one to have the issue and b) it is easily corrected.? And even better, after using the TinySA Ultra for a few minutes the display "fixed" itself, shifting into a straightened view.? I am assuming it must have just shifted a bit during shipping.
I already had the original TinySA, but this upgrade to the Ultra is worth every cent, and Erik deserves the equivalent of an academy award for bringing these powerful tools to the "radio table" for such a low cost.? I came very close to spending 20X the cost for an additional spectrum analyzer with a higher frequency range, had I not learned of the new Ultra version. |

(TinySA reports it as 511)Should be ok now. The generator and the SA use the same backup locations for frequency and span so when switching between the modes the frequency will always be reset. ? -- For more info on the tinySA go to |

Thank you for the prompt reply. That sounds like it would be a lot more work than I initially thought it would be. Would it be any easier to have it compiled just as vertical? I.E. change code related to resolution/orientation/etc and compile it from source to only output in vertical orientation and forego horizontal, or is the variability not really the issue? Is there a lot built on top of the assumption of horizontal orientation? I'm assuming I would then need to reorient touch input as well, possibly the jog switch. Would this still negatively impact display updates?
I'll admit I know very little about C or the limits of this hardware, but I've been looking for an excuse/project to learn. Currently browsing the source code downloaded from GitHub. |
Re: TinySA ULTRA calibration reset error
Hi Erik, -Reading MirkD's description of his issue with the ULTRA, mine has exhibited the same behavior. Ran into issues requiring resetting of the Ultra Mode, even though it was checked, in order to set to a higher frequency than 800Mhz. I'll keep an eye on what you guys come up with regarding this.
Another issue I noted is in the interface of the Ultra with the latest TinySA -App, 1.1.20.1.I have updated the FW with the app with no issues whatever. However, if I use the instrument set up (four arrows on the left), the program loads the Tiny SA set up. If I import a frequency range from 0MHz (to whatever), the program will not display sweep. If I change the sweep range in the program, from .000001Hz (to whatever), the program sweeps normally. On the instrument, if I set a low frequency of .000001Hz (to whatever), the program imports this and sweeps normally.?Appears the program doesn't like the 0Hz (as the original setup on? the Ultra came from Zeenko). I tried reloading the older FW in the instrument, no change, and tried an older version of the App, no change. I tried my older Tiny SAs and found when I set the range to 0Hz (to whatever) the App uploaded the setup, but loaded the low frequency as .000001 Hz. The Ultra loads the low frequency as 0Hz. if set to that on the Ultra. Appears the low freq must be a frequency of at least 1Hz.? Not a critical issue as long as the behavior is known. By the way,as I work primarily in GHz range frequencies, using a 6GHz test generator, I find the instrument within 0.5dB of the generator output level and the frequency is very close as well. To get an accurate instrument at this price range that goes as high as 6GHz and that compares favorably with commercial instruments at 30X the cost, is a monumental achievement. Congrats to you and the team that developed this.? ----------------------------------------- From: "Erik Kaashoek"To: [email protected] Cc: Sent: Friday December 2 2022 6:11:03AM Subject: Re: [tinysa] TinySA ULTRA calibration reset error Will see if I can replicate this and find the cause. -- For more info on the tinySA go to

Re: TinySA Ultra screen misaligned
mine did not have the double sided?tape, it was just floating. On Fri, Dec 2, 2022 at 5:02 PM Steve Smith <wb9hbh@...> wrote: My screen was the same out of alignment. TinySA Ultra - Start Up Behavior
I love the fact that my Ultra powers up using the exact same settings last active at the time I powered it off. ? ? This behavior is distinctly different from the original version I have, and different from what I expect based on the labeling of the preset zero titled ¡®Load Startup¡¯. ? ?
My Questions are: - Is this the new behavior to expect? ? If so, shouldn¡¯t the labelling of the preset zero button be changed to have the same behavior as the rest of the preset buttons? - Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing that gives the user control over the power up configuration option (i.e. load either preset zero or load last settings used)? Nice work Erik! ?And thank you so much for the larger screen, improved generator, and improved base frequency range. ? Keep it up. |
Re: TinySA Ultra screen misaligned
My screen was the same out of alignment. It cut off the top left corner and info on the display, came from R & L. I carefully opened it up, unplugged the battery and carefully pried
up the display with a plastic car dash removal tool. Slipping under the display and PWB,? and working all the way around it so not to damage the display. It is only held in place with some double sided tape. Then realigned it with the markings on the PWB then put it back together. All of the displays connections are by ribbon cable on one end only. Case is held together by 4 small screws on the back. Be sure to reconnect the battery and don't over tighten the cover screws. This is for info only and proceed at your own risk. Steve |

mine also arrived today via GLS ordered on 11th of Nov. at Eleshop. First test seems very promising, didn't tried ultra mode but the lower end up to 10MHz and the RBW and VBW settings that I missed badly on the TinySA. The results are great! For me this little thing is really a game changer in the SA market! It has even a better dynamic then my Metronix 2658 in the lower band. The LNA is a very valuable add-on! I will do some measurements with low distortion sources the next days and report back. But I can say I am very impressed. Thumbs up for your work!
