Check to make sure you hooked it up correctly,? i.e. HC05 TX to nano rx, and HC05 Rx to nano tx
I think it will only send data through the TX pins, by very definition.
An oscilloscope will see the TX line changing levels as data is sent - standard electronics stuff - nothing magic about it.
