Miems & Daleen, I just love this group! Just joined this week. I can see it's a little rough around the edges, but everyone is working it out so well. We definitely need all those little personalities to keep things going and see different perspectives! And I can see everyone here are so special in their own ways. I have so enjoyed all your designs and they always stitch out so beautiful. Hope to learn from you guys on the digitizing. You are the best! Thank you so much for the beautiful butterfly design. I can't wait to stitch it out! Sue Phillips in So. Calif. ULT 2001

practice and be productive
6
When I was starting out I used some of my daughter old clothes that has stains or rips on them. I figured if I messed up, who cares. After they out grew them I donated them to a woman's shelter. The kids loved them and now I go to the thrift stores and pick up clothes, fix them up with embellishments and donate them to the shelters. These kids have so little and to have a pair of jeans with Mickey Mouse or pretty flowers really makes their day. Watch the greedy Disney people come after me now..LOL. Anyway, it is a way to practice and do good at the same time. Something else I do and I will try to get through this with out blubbering. When a baby dies at birth the parents usually spend the evening holding the baby. Being one of those mothers at one time I made an arrangement with the hospital nurses to call me and give me the babies name and weight. I embroidery a on blankets and take them straight up to the hospital. They call them grieving blankets and gives the parents something to take home. That one is a bit demanding cause I have got phone calls at 5am and I am up sewing wiping the crud out of my eyes. Just some ideas on how to practice and help our world. Venus

Hello: If anyone is interested Carin Sharon of www.heavenly-inspirations.com is currently creating short videos on how to use PSP. You can link to her yahoo group from her website to get the passwords, etc. The current concensus is not to purchase PSP8, Carin has, along with another website owner from Skeldale and it took over their entire computer and ruined alot of files, etc. They have gone back to PSP7 These short videos are fantastic and extremely helpful. We are currently learning to create paper dolls and clothing for same. Sylvia L.

stop hoop moving idea
What a great idea! Thank you for sharing. Best of luck, Bocca Sue Rambo Designer of Mystery Quilt in Designs in Machine Embroidery Magazine I was having difficulty getting the bottom hoop to stay in place while hooping and finally came up with a solution. I took a heavy piece of cardboard and stapled a piece of the waffle type drawer liner to it. I had some of the heavier type and it works great. Now I just lay the bottom hoop on it with the bottom edge extended and lay the stabilizer and fabric over it and press down. The bottom hoop stays in place instead of scooting all over the place. If this doesn't make sense let me know and I will take a photo and put in in the files. Rosalie in South Georgia __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Question....
2
Hi Judy - I've only been embroidering since Christmas so I'm a newbie, too! What kind of machine do you have? I have a Bernina 180E and I use Embird for editing the designs and Magic Box. I started out practicing on pieces of fabric, too. I've done an apron (denim type and inexpensive at Walmart!), and quilt labels, and framed embroidery. I have yet to adventure onto a garment.... And I don't spend so much time converting colors now. Now I choose the colors I like out of my stash, or go buy new colors, and line them up together to be sure the colors all go together well. Part of the fun of embroidery, for me, is taking someone's design and using the colors I like to go with whatever project I'm working on. You find you waste some time and materials because maybe there's not enough contrast or whatever, but you learn more about your machine, your stabilizers, hooping, etc. I'm planning on doing a tablerunner, burp clothes and golf shirts. You're in a great group and if you need more ideas for beginning projects, just ask! Kim Message: 22 Date: Wed, 11 Jun 2003 16:18:14 -0700 From: "Judy Lehman" <rdljpl@...> Subject: Question....... I am totally new to machine embroidery. My husband down loads my patterns for me and I plug them into my machine. All I have done is embroidery patterns on a piece of fabric, never a garment or anything else. I think maybe I am in the wrong group, I need a Beginning Group. I feel like I spend all my time converting thread colors over to Isacorde colors. I love what I have done, but now I feel I am ready to move on. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. URL Tip - Long!
I posted this recently to another group, so if you are on that group as well, just ignore! ======================== Many of you may already know this, and please deep six if you do, but I thought I would pass along a little hint about URLs - those wonderful web addresses many of us like to just click on. URL stands for Universal Resource Locator and is how we reach all those wonderful embroidery and other sites. WWW is of course for world wide web and http is for hyper text transfer protocol. Now the fun begins. The next part of the address is the main site's location. Example: http://www.berninausa.com/ Often when someone posts a site, because we have to do so in plain text and have a limited margin, part of the whole address often goes to the next line, and we either do not see it or ignore it. So when we cut and paste an address someone gives us, we have an incomplete address and rather than try to figure it out, we just say "That address didn't work". Rule #1 - Make sure you read the whole address; often there will be an htm or an html at the end. Keep the window open that specifies the address and after you have cut and pasted the address in your browser's address line, manually type the next part that may have wrapped. Rule #2 - If an address doesn't work for you, try cutting and pasting it on your address line of your browser and systematically deleting each section of it from the back to the front. Web addresses are separated by a regular slash, not the backwards slash of a Windows operating system. The slashes indicate sections. Often it may be just the last part that is messed up, and if you eventually get to the main site, you will probably be able to find what was mentioned and what you are looking for anyway. Web addresses are comprised of parts--the main part and the sub-parts to the site, thus the slashes. Even if some of the sub-parts can't be found, once you get to the main site, you can "poke" around and find things! And another thing--sometimes we type web addresses manually in our posts, and often we make a typo - look them over carefully and you can often tell something is amiss and just try a couple of variations. Last, but not least, go to Google and put in a key word - you'll find it! Hope this helps someone! Sunny Chandonais - sunnysewsit@...
