practice and be productive

Venus

When I was starting out I used some of my daughter old clothes that has stains or rips on them. I figured if I messed up, who cares. After they out grew them I donated them to a woman's shelter. The kids loved them and now I go to the thrift stores and pick up clothes, fix them up with embellishments and donate them to the shelters. These kids have so little and to have a pair of jeans with Mickey Mouse or pretty flowers really makes their day. Watch the greedy Disney people come after me now..LOL. Anyway, it is a way to practice and do good at the same time. Something else I do and I will try to get through this with out blubbering. When a baby dies at birth the parents usually spend the evening holding the baby. Being one of those mothers at one time I made an arrangement with the hospital nurses to call me and give me the babies name and weight. I embroidery a on blankets and take them straight up to the hospital. They call them grieving blankets and gives the parents something to take home. That one is a bit demanding cause I have got phone calls at 5am and I am up sewing wiping the crud out of my eyes.

Just some ideas on how to practice and help our world.

Venus, what a lovely idea! I always haunt the thrift stores, and do pick up clothing that's in good shape to give to the shelters, but never thought (duh!) to practice my work on those. As the 'embellished' items are so popular with the kids, it's wonderful to think that they too can have what everyone else is wearing. I knew there was a reason I've been collecting all these kids designs! Thanks so much for the idea Venus. Laura

Well I don't think I am special I just knew what is was like to have to wear torn clothes and go home from the hospital empty handed. I think we all do what we know and this is how I cope it is very therapeutic so I need to thank them.
