Hi Margaret. For your 200 to read embroidery files, they have to be
in art format. Pes files will open in the software & then "saved as" an art format. I'm not sure if any other software besides Artista will convert to art or not. I haven't found any. Hope this helps Ginni in Maryland -- In HookedOnEmbroidery@..., "meminton1975" <margaretminton@...> wrote:

Hi Bernina users: Have you tried using Art Link to send your PES
files to your machine. I have used PES many times on the 730E, the 640E, the 630E, the 440e and the 430E. Parker --- In HookedOnEmbroidery@..., "meminton1975" <margaretminton@...> wrote:

I can see there is some confusion here. Artlink only reads ART format.

It is a free software that let's you send ART designs from your computer to your machine without needing a card or usb stick. Bernina started with PES format, only because the first Bernina Deco machines were made by Brother, so used the same format. Ever since the Artistas began with a bigger hoop and software, the machine has used ART format. Those with editor or designer software packages can read and convert most formats easily. It's the software that does it, not the machine. I hope this clears up some conflicting answers. Kathy -------------- Original message --------------

Still not working for me. PES files will not open in my software - all I have is the Bernina ARTLink that came with the machine. ARTLink is not an editing software - I can view the designs, and it will tell me what version of ART has been used, how many stitches, how many color changes, size of design. I can "Save As" a different version of ART (up to ART 4).

I have tried changing the file extension on a PES file to .art - but ArtLink would not read that either. I really appreciate everybody's trying to help me! Thank you all so much! But it's still not working. (small sniffle and whimper ...) Margaret in Maryland ----- Original Message -----

Margaret in Maryland: You can not just change a file extension.
The file has to be converted from one to another - Have you tried. HUS or JEF - then convert them - I know that HUS converts better to XXX format than PES does. While PES may be used by more Embroiders, it takes up more room and I've found that when converting to the format I need - I use HUS or JEF. Or can you get it PEC - that is also a brother format - It may convert for you. Mary Lou Come see "WHAT'S NEW" at Mary Lou's all I have is the Bernina ARTLink that came with the machine. Just to clarify....The Bernina 200E CANNOT use the PES format...Ohhh how I wish it could but the Bernina company won't allow it. We have to use their software for this. Unfortunately, I can't afford to go that route.

If I remember right, I use Pulse Ambassador to convert JEF into PES, and then use Wilcom Truesizer to translate PES to ART. Maybe Truesizer would help you convert your PES designs to ART. Margaret

Don't be blue! I used to have a Bernina Artista 180 and suffered the way you are. Then, one day, a kind fairy told me of the following procedure. It takes a while but works for that special design you just have to have! First of all convert any format you like into EXP format (I swear by Embird but perhaps there is a freebie software programme out there that will just convert to EXP) and store it somewhere on your PC. Next open the Art Link software. Go to File and open Card Read/Write. Don't worry about having a card - you don't need one because you are going to be using Art Link on the PC directly linked to the machine. My PC then shows "Device selection"; asks you to select the embroidery system.(180 in our case) You then click in the appropriate Com Port which is the port on your PC where the cable which is connected to the Artista goes in. Then it says (on mine) "the access to the internal design memory failed" Don't freak - just press OK - don't know why it says that! Then it says something about the access to something or other has failed. Ignore that one too and okay it. Eventually - God willing - you will get to a window headed "Read from Embroidery system etc etc" Now open the folder you want, using the open file icon which is the bottom one of the three in the middle of the screen.(I have designs saved in a file marked EXPS for conversion) and remember to tick the box marked "show files". Patience - we are almost there! Now select one of the icons in the box on the bottom left hand side (you will see that suddenly they all have artista icons!) Now go to the icons on the right hand side (four of them). Select the one at the top which is a reel of thread on a paint palette (!) Press that and bingo! The design opens up in your Art link and is ready to download to the machine and stitch out! Don't forget to "Save as" with a new name so you can find it again. You will also see that the colours are stranger than you could imagine but that's the price you pay. The embroidery freebie world is now your oyster! You can stitch out anything that you can convert to EXP. I hope this is clear to you. I haven't done this for ages as I now have a Janome MC11000 Good luck!! Hi Marge:
What do you use to send your designs to your machine from the internet? And, what came with your 200E. We don't sell them anymore as the 730E replaced it. I thought ArtLink could open PES files, but it can't. Editor Lite came with my 640E and it will open anything.
