Power SDR going deaf?
I initially started using the soft rock with the Power SDR software
but last night downloaded the SDRadio and am hearing a lot more signals with it. I was able to easily null the image in the Power SDR setup and when there are a lot of siganls I don't notice anything except that it sounds real nice. So, I was wondering if anyone else has done and A/B with the 2 pieces of software and were able to tell a difference? Chris N7UJU |

Chris,
Wow! What a difference! I haven't made any detailed comparisons yet, but... WOW! Hmm - can't say I did a detailed A/B comparison, but I did give it a quick try tonight and did not notice much of a difference one way or the other, although band seemed a bit dead this evening. I did have a problem with SDRadio in I was not able to null the image too well on SDRadio -- the phase control had some effect, but the amplitude control did not seem to do anything for me.

It also looks like SDRadio needs reverse IQ set for a SoftRock. Did you null the image signal on SDRadio on this test? Wondering if hearing more sigs with SDRadio was a result of the image rejection being off? Regards, Bill (kd5tfd) At 09:12 AM 10/11/2005, Kevin H. Miller wrote:

I did try to null in SDRadio but as you found, it didn't have much if
any effect. I have downloaded the 'spare' data base from Flex so at least when things get way out of hand I have a normalized point to start over from. Just a curiosity on my part. I enjoy dinking around with the software, and love listening to the nice clean audio of the SR. I really hate turning on the noisy 857, but can only listen so long before I have to do something about it. I appreciate your input. Ok, now I'm confused.
We have one that says little/no difference and one big difference like me. I guess on to hardware then. Although it acts the same whether I'm using the SBLive 5.1 or the Delta44, computer is a old 1.6 Athlon running XP. I'd be curious as to your system specs. Thanks Chris N7UJU --- In softrock40@..., "Kevin H. Miller" <khmiller@c...> wrote: yet, but... WOW! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DUH!
Sorry I posted anything, I guess still getting used to the software and what the hardware can actually do. I didn't realize... until now that the delta44 was providing an extra 48KHz (the duh part) so that's where my 'extra' signals came from, then realizing the IQ switch needed for SDRadio put the extra signals down in the extra portion of the band. Ok, so I'm a little slow. Thanks for being patient. Possibly you will have to retouch the fine phase slider, then again the amplitude. With a careful adjustment, it is possible to go down up to 70+ dB of rejection of the unwanted sideband. Of course, both the phase and the amplitude controls act only on a small adjustment range, the implication being that the hardware is already almost balanced, needing just a final touch up. If the hardware is grossly unbalanced, the range of the amplitude control may be not large enough to rebalance it. 73 Alberto I2PHD |
Thanks Alberto,
I was able to find a good signal that allowed me to properly null the image in SDRadio. Very fine software, I look forward to it's futher development.
