Software development with C#
KD5NWA
Are any other C# platforms being successfully used to compile the Flex software other that MS Visual Studio ?
What about ; Mono Grasshopper C#Builder ?? Cecil Bayona KD5NWA www.qrpradio.com I fail to see why doing the same thing over and over and getting the same results every time is insanity: I've almost proved it isn't; only a few more tests now and I'm sure results will differ this time ... |
Re: Software Installation...
I had this exact same problem and it was my own error. I installed the PowerSDR and Framework.Net as expected. Then I downloaded the Softrock40 files to another directory. For some reason I tried to execute the Softrock40 files in their directory as an installation program. That's when I got the error you describe. I wasn't looking carefully at the whole situation :-) Then later on I copied the Softwrock40 files into the PowerSDR folder where they belonged. And it worked perfectly. It sounds like you might be executing the PowerSDR file from the wrong directory. Incidently I renamed the pertinent files in the PowerSDR directory instead of over witting them. Maybe you have an old shortcut which is calling the Softrock40 files away from the PowerSDR installation. Hope this helps :-)

How and what did you uninstall? Hoping you did not uninstall the .NET framework. What did you reinstall? I'd suggest going into Add/Remove programs (in Control Panel I think) and un installing PowerSDR if it says it is there. Then go to the directory PowerSDR was installed into and make sure it is empty. Then do an install of PowerSDR 1.4.4 from Flex-Radio. See if that comes up. Then install the SoftRock PowerSDR patches for 1.4.4 from . Regards, Bill (kd5tfd) At 03:25 PM 10/4/2005, Robert Hughes wrote:

Software Installation...
Robert Hughes
Hello All,
I'm trying to install the PowerSDR software and the following Fatal Error dialog box pops up behind the splash screen: Interop.ADOX or one of its dependencies was not found at PowerSDR.DB.Create() at PowerSDR.DB.Init() at PowerSDR.Console..ctor(String[] args) at PowerSDR.Console.Main(String[] args) Any ideas as to how to deal with this problem? The software had been previously installed and working, but an issue arose and I needed to uninstall it and now am trying to reinstall... Thanks, Bob - KI8JM |
Re: Minimum Computer for SR40 ?

Depends entirely on your perception of what operation
in the "field" is. As soon as you mention "laptop" the idea of "field operation" contracts to a few hours on a picnic bench within reach of your car. Laptops are battery hogs and most won't last more than 2 hours on battery power. The idea of lugging a laptop that weights 5 or 10 times as much as the all the rest of the QRP station and consumes 10-50 times as much power isn't all that appealing for field use. And in the end, it won't significantly outperform the analog rigs costing 50-100 times less. My Toshiba Satellite 1105, a low-end laptop that works fine with the SR-40, weighs more and draws more than my K1, K2 and KX1 COMBINED. That's why you don't see a lot of digital mode use in the field. The SR-40 is not a minimalist rig. It is a minimalist rf plug-in for a relatively (by QRP standards) heavy, complex, expensive computer. That's not criticizing the SR-40; it's putting this new creature in perspective. An SR-40 based SDR is primarily a computer app. The hardware is a computer, and those are still comparatively large and inefficient. Current laptops are designed for desktop use or short periods of "portable" use within sight of an AC outlet. When computer hardware comes down in size and power consumption, SDR in the field becomes practical. It's already highly evolved and practical with analog techniques. hangs up at initializing DSP. The computer is a 1997 IBM Thinkpad 770 running Windows 98 with 160 MB of RAM. When I go to system properties, all it says is Genuine Pentium, not the speed. I am assuming that it won't work with this computer? I got everything loaded last night on our new Dell 3 Ghz machine with no errors after having to uninstall Power SDR a few times (I must have done something wrong installing it since I got a fatal error) before figuring out how to do it right. By far the biggest portion of the computing power is eaten by the console and graphics. The DSP is an amazingly small part of the total computational load. The spectrum and associated display functions are really the cycle hogs. If you slow down the spectrum update rate to, say, 5 per second, or turn it off completely, you don't need much machine to service the essential radio functions. I have turned off the virus checker and other spy blocking software as it is not needed. It can take a while to find the combination that will work but once you find it the SR-40 will be quite impressive. A high performance system is not necessary! 73 - Mike WA8BXN -------Original Message-------

Yes, after all the dust has cleared, I do have five
of the v4.0 SoftRock40 PCBs I could sell you.? A fair price for each of the

Please let me know if you still are interested in
the five boards.

Re: It works !
Hi Dick,
Yes, the Softrock works very well with the SD radio software on my older PC running Windows 98. I have not had any success to date getting the Flex Radio software operational on a newer PC running Windows 2000. FB on the single audio channel downconverter. The SD radio software will work with this also but there will be images present that will clutter up the display, since there will be no way to reject the unwanted response. I have used the SD radio program with the R2PRO which I believe is similar to the binaural receiver design, this also works very well. Just keep an offset of at least 5KHz or more to get away from the noise at the center zero IF, true for all direct conversion receivers. Keeping the offset makes the receiver operate as a superheterodyne receiver with a low IF. Happy experimenting GL 73, Bob Johansen WB2SRF |

Hi, Bob. I wondered whether that would work. I built a crystal
oscillator/mixer to down convert the final IF of a Heath SB-303 to 15 kHz audio for testing with IK2XL's single channel DSP routines. Since I'm waiting for delivery of the SoftRock kit, I thought I'd try running the oscillator thru the R2Pro UVFO phase shift network, into a Binaural receiver and then into SDR1000. Another SDR program for SR40

my windows ME system.? The program starts to initialize but stops and hangs
while initializing the dsp function.? A while back some one else on the

I2PHD has another SDR program that seems to work
fine with the SR40.? This program is available for?free download at .? The download
is less than a meg and worked?as soon as I plugged the SR40 into the mike

with windows ME and may work with 95 too.? It's worth a try.

I would recommend steering clear of these programmable oscillators for any RF type work. The jitter is much too great for good RF performance. 73, - Steve N7HPR -----Original Message-----
