Copyright

"The problem with Flickr is they have to be public.. Some of the images in the files section are copyright (e.g. scans from magazines)."

Copyright depends on each nation's laws.?? In the USA everything you write, every photo or image you create is copyright automatically by you.? This is the brave new world of the Berne Convention. You may transfer some rights to an online entity when you accept their terms and conditions.? If you attach the appropriate public domain Creative Commons symbol to your work that can effectively remove the copyright.? Trouble with that is you have to figure out how to do that with your image files? or add the right text to your documents.? (I'm still working on all that)

I have this dark suspicion that someday your automatic ownership by copyright will be sufficient reason for online sources to automatically "reject" effectively wiping out your earthly record of most if not all creative things you have accomplished.
