Egret Tryptic
?Hello again, everyone! Thanks so much to those of you that commented on my last post. As it turns out, what I sent you was only 1/3 of a triptych of photos. A few weeks ago, Morris was observing a beautiful egret at the Cosumnes River Preserve just as the sun was setting. The egret was wading around in the shallow water looking for dinner but didn¡¯t seem to find anything that suited his fancy. Eventually, he slowly and gracefully took flight but stayed very close to the water before touching down again to check out the food supply a little further down the way. This three-part composite panorama is actually a series of still images culled from the 75 consecutive shots Morris took while panning the egret¡¯s flight. Hope you enjoy it....

It really is a stunning picture(s). If you haven't seen Morris's website (Photo Journeys) you really should. His photos take you to a whole new place. This morning I looked at his " Living On the Delta" journey and what a wonderful lazy trip it took me on. Made me want to crawl in and never come out.??? ? Happy New Year everyone.?? ?

Taking flight into a year of hope--this photo is mesmerizing. I hope we may all enjoy as graceful a liftoff into this brand new year.

Re: Backyard birds
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý?Hi again, Cliff¨C never know whether to reply just to the sender or the whole group but wanted to let you and others know that Morris had already reported the Wilson¡¯s warbler through MerlinBirdID.com and it seems that they overlap with ebirds.com because his sightings were already listed. Since they¡¯re both part of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology group, Morris said they must cross-pollinate.... ? The other listing Morris submitted was of a juvenile black-crowned night heron (see photo below) but although we had never seen such a bird in our frequent evening walks along the Pocket Canal Parkway, we were told they are common!?But it said the Wilson¡¯s warbler was rare so I guess that¡¯s a good criteria to go by.... Thanks again for your help,? Di and Morris? On Dec 28, 2020, at 9:25 PM, Clifford Hawley <yellowhammerCA@...> wrote:

Re: Backyard birds
That Wilson's Warbler is a nice find for this time of year. We don't get a lot of winter records. As one of the county eBird reviewers I really hope you put a list in with this great photo documentation.? I put a solar light in the middle of the hole to discourage cats from jumping in there but fortunately, it doesn¡¯t deter the birds! --

Charming and beautiful, especially the colors on the warbler--so nice to see in the winter! Hope the cats find other suitable meals.

Re: Backyard birds
As soon as I saw the Wilson's Warbler, I thought of the song "Yellow Bird" sung by The Brothers Four.? ?? lol?? I never know where these bird pictures will take me. Often times down memory lane. :-)

Re: Redtail
It must be nice to see and recognize the same bird friend for many years. He's even beginning to look a little like a grandpa.? I would assume since he is a familiar figure in the neighborhood, you may have given him a name? He deserves one. I wonder what their expected lifespan is.?I hope you continue to see him for a few more years.
