Testing the new group

Thanks to Vas for setting up this group.
Just testing to see how well it handles some pictures

Re: Testing the new group

Two things;

Sub? Vas could REALLY use the membeship roster to do Onvites.

And maybe you could be a silent co-owner. Stuff falls from skies... backup to backup is wise. Seals say, 2 is 1. 1 is none.

And, choose a pic! You can rotate them. Sub's were great!

BillSF9c

Re: Testing the new group

Vas can limit pic resolution in IO, or let it be unlimited.

BillSF9c

Re: Testing the new group

Co-owner would be nice, just as a second set of eyes and as you mentioned, stuff happens. BillSF9c, how'bout you being the one?

As for pic size limit, this does not appear to be possible with the free account.? Photo settings are under premium features, and they are blocked.? I am not too concerned over space, yet, presuming that every picture is a high resolution photo at around 5MB, it would take about 200 photos to reach 1GB (math confirmation anyone, it's getting late). Although I've never counted them, I am not sure the current Yahoo Group has had over 200 photos in one year, or has it?

My challenge now is to ensure the current group members, about 15, can post without me having to moderate the messages. Working on it, thank you for your patience.

Re: Testing the new group

OK, so those of you who have confirmed your accounts with Groups,io, should be able to post without me having to approve the posts.

Re: Testing the new group

I agree that multiple (3 to 4) co-owners/moderators is a good idea and I'll be happy to be one of them.

Vas, does groups.io allow you to import members' emails?? I know google groups only lets you do 10 at a time.? If yes, I can provide the member list from the yahoo group.? If not, we can send the info on how to subscribe to io via the yahoo group.? I prefer the second method as it allows people who don't want to stay in the group to be easily unsubscribed.? But remember that many members are not tech-savvy, so please provide detailed instructions on how to subscribe.
Also, I think we may exceed the 200 photos/year - is the space limit based on what is sent or what is stored?? Could we delete photos older than 6 months?? Another option is to encourage members who want to share multiple photos to store photos elsewhere and provide a link to the site where the photos are.

Subhash, you bring up very good points. I am currently on the road and can¡¯t reply, however, I made you an owner (we can have more than one), so feel free to explore the administrative interface. In addition to owners, there are also moderators, so others can assist with managing the group.?

Plan to Bird Yuba County

We are planning to bird Yuba County starting in Maryville WT Plant on Friday, Nov. 13th.
Other than recommending using ebird, can anyone recommend a local park that is their favorite.
We're birders and want to visit all the local parks and ebird hot spots.
Two species we'd like to find are the Yellowbilled Magpie and Tundra Swans.

Marin County

Re: Plan to Bird Yuba County

I used to see Yellowbilled Magpie's around this area usually on large front lawns but I haven't seen them in quite some time? Are they still around Sacramento and I'm just missing them?

Nancy...there used to be great flocks of the 'pies all over most of the greater Sacramento area; however, the West Nile virus decimated their populations several years back and while they're still around, not in as great numbers as back before 2010.

For whatever reason, the corvids were more susceptible to the virus than most other families. Crows seem to have bounded back pretty successfully, but jays and magpies were hit hard.

Same here. Used to see lots of Scrub Jays and Mocking birds in my back yard visiting my fig tree and Virginia Creeper. But now, all I have are crows. I thought the jays and mocking birds were forced to move out when the crows moved in.? I thought the crows were hardest hit by West Nile.?Never imagined other bird species were hit hard too. The crows seem to have made a quick recovery.? Hope these other birds made a rebound soon, too.? ?(Kathy)
