Trip to the VA clinic
4
Had to make a trip to the VA clinic yesterday to let them draw blood for an upcoming doctor's appointment. When I got there, and I got there early, the place was quite full with several of us standing as all the chairs were already taken. When a chair came available, I sat down and shortly the Vet next to me got called up so another Vet sat down in that chair. We sat there for awhile and then the fellow leaned over and said, "You know, about everyone here had to fast before coming so no body got breakfast. Now, what channel to they put the TV on, the danged cooking channel." We both got a good laugh and agreed it was sort of like torture to sit there and see them cooking such good looking dishes and knowing they probably tasted pretty good as well. Yes, when I got home, I did eat my breakfast even if it was a little past mid-morning. John T. Herman 210-396-1974 Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God. Night Owl Report
2
Geez, not even full, but that moon is quite bright at 0400, Saturday. Almost bright enough to get a tan from moonlight. We had 0.6 in moisture, and temp now at lowest of 27F. If it snowed, it was minimal. Ready for Caribbean Beach time... Cheers, y;all.

Happy Winter, Everyone!
2
Well, we are down to the last ten days of the year and the start of Winter, all at one time. At least with the start of Winter, we can start looking forward to Spring and warm weather. Had an interesting project this afternoon. I flipped on the back porch wall light and nothing happened. I thought it was just the bulb so I got another bulb, tested it in a lamp and it worked fine. Changed the light bulbs and flipped on the switch, nothing happened. Next, I took the plate off the switch and checked that the switch was working and it was working fine. That left the back porch wall light as the culprit. A trip to Lowe's and back home with a new light fixture and a bulb with a sensor for dusk to dawn operation. Finally got the right breaker turned off and tested to make sure before I started messing with the wire nuts. The old light came off fairly easy and the new one went on with the usual issues with mounting brackets. Got it all together and put the new bulb in and turned the breaker back on. A flip of the light switch and the light came on and in about a minute, it went out. That is the way it is supposed to work when the sun is shining so I called it a success. Wonder what I can to for fun next week?????? John T. Herman 210-396-1974 Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God. Full Moon
5
OK, so who all got to see the full moon on Sunday night? Once again, we had total cloud cover so did not get to see it at all. I was quite happy this morning while walking the dog, the clouds began to break up a bit and I got to see sunshine. John T. Herman 210-396-1974 Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Just Wonderin'
7
Just wonderin' if everyone made it back home from their Thanksgiving visits. Just wonderin' if there was anyone who found themselves in the same situation as I found. After my visit to San Angelo and Water Valley, by the time I got home, I found that is have five new pounds to get rid of. (But, all those goodies were so tasty!) Just wonderin' how everyone is handling this cold/damp weather. Personally, I am more than ready for some sunshine. Just wonderin' if we will be hearing from anyone... John T. Landman
3
Anyone watching Landman with Billy Bob Thornton? It¡¯s about life in the oilfield. My family all worked in the oil patch. My father and grandfather were drillers with Arrow Drilling back in the 40¡¯s and 50¡¯s. My great uncle was a tool pusher. My other grandfather worked in the pipeline for Shell. I was born in McCamey right in the Permian Basin. My early life was living in a travel trailer moving from one drilling site to another. We moved to San Angelo when I was 10 and my mom had divorced my father. This series is very realistic and well done. Cheers, Roy

Interesting Article
3
Start your day with some good news ?! This is very interesting ? and make sure you read the full article. The population of Earth is around 7.8 Billion. For most people, it is a significant figure. However, if you condensed 7.8 billion into 100 persons, and then into various percentage statistics, the resulting analysis is relatively much easier to comprehend. Out of 100: 11 are in Europe 5 are in North America 9 are in South America 15 are in Africa 60 are in Asia 49 live in the countryside 51 live in a city, 75 have mobile phones 25 do not. 30 have internet access 70 do not have the availability to go online 83 can read 17 are illiterate. 33 are Christians 22 are Muslims 14 are Hindus 7 are Buddhists 12 are other religions 12 have no religious beliefs. 26 live less than 14 years 66 died between 15 - 64 years of age 8 are over 65 years old. If you have your own home, Eat full meals & drink clean water, Have a mobile phone, Can surf the internet, and have gone to college, You are in the minuscule privileged lot. (in the less than 7% category) Amongst 100 persons in the world, only eight live or exceed the age of 65! If you are over 65 years old, be content & grateful Cherish life. Grasp the moment. If you did not leave this world before the age of 64, like the 92 persons who have gone before you, you are already the blessed amongst humankind. Take good care of your health. Cherish every remaining moment. If you think you are suffering memory loss, read on. Anosognosia, very interesting: In the following analysis, the French Professor Bruno Dubois, Director of the Institute of Memory and Alzheimer's Disease (IMMA) at La Piti¨¦-Salp¨ºtri¨¨re - Paris Hospital addresses the subject in a rather reassuring way: "If anyone is aware of their memory problems, they do not have Alzheimer's." 1. forget the names of families. 2. do not remember where I put some things. It often happens in people 60 years and older that they complain that they lack memory. "The information is always in the brain, it is the "processor" that is lacking." This is "Anosognosia" or temporary forgetfulness. Half of people 60 and older have some symptoms that are due to age rather than disease. The most common cases are: - forgetting the name of a person, - going to a room in the house and not remembering why we were going there, - a blank memory for a movie title or actor, an actress, - a waste of time searching where we left our glasses or keys. After 60 years most people have such a difficulty, which indicates that it is not a disease but rather a characteristic due to the passage of years. Many people are concerned about these oversights hence the importance of the following statements: 1."Those who are conscious of being forgetful have no serious problem of memory." 2. "Those who suffer from a memory illness or Alzheimer's are not aware of what is happening." Professor Bruno Dubois, Director of IMMA, reassures the majority of people concerned about their oversights: "The more we complain about memory loss, the less likely we are to suffer from memory sickness." We are truly blessed, So, share this with your over-55 friends, it can reassure them. In any case, if you are over 65 and complaining about a few aches and pains, think again........ 92% of people didn't even get that opportunity!! So be pleased with your situation and be happy.
