The thing to remember is that when tuning with a MFJ 259B antenna analyzer, the power used in tuning is very low a few milliwats, this gives a better tune than when say 10 watts or more is

I also repair EF Johnson radios. This unit is a work horse. I would take the CR1100 over any Motorola repeater. The Jonhson is not state of the art, but Johnson has taken K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple

You can't just tune a Johnson radio. Parts must be replaced. It is a bit of work, but well worth it. I repair Johnson radios / repeaters for a living. You can get a service manual from E F Johnson

Garry, Tuning the BANDPASS for minimum SWR is the way to go. This method will also compensate (at least partly) for antenna SWR. This method is also much more sensitive than trying to peak a signal
