Tim,

RE your crystal problem. The GE Master II was set up for 5 PPM crystals,
with the option to use 2 PPM.

The way they did this was to install a 5C crystal in channel 1 Receive
slot. This unit send a compenstion voltage to each EC crystal in the
radio. Normaly all other receive and all transmit crystals were controlled
by the one 5C. If you installed any 2C units they were self controlled and
did not use nor provide the compenstion voltage.

The other models of GE used 5 PPM crystals and the compensation voltage was
from the radio itself. Note most of the Master II, Master Exec II, and MVP
used the same basic crystal for the same band. IE: A GE Master II crystal
for 155.01 MH receive or transmit can be removed from the M II Icom and
installed into an Exec II or MVP Icom (Exec II and MVP use the same
holder, the Master II uses a different one and Maser II PLL uses even a
third type.)

If you move a GE Master II, Exec II or MVP, 2 Meter (66) or UHF (66), and
some 10 meter units, to the ham band, one slick trick I have found, is to
change the Receiver from Low side injection to high side injection, this
keeps the osc. mult. stages tuned to the same range as before.

I built up custom built repeaters from Master II and Exec II radios. I do
the complete interface to your controller, repeater mod. and complete
alignment of your radio to the ham band.

Subject: Icoms for Ge M2

I am in the process of setting up 2 ge master II's for our local
repeater and have some questions about the icoms. One radio will be a
link rx only in a environmentally controlled room and the other, the
remote site, will likely not be in a controlled environment. Is it
necessary to have the icoms temperature compensated when
recrystalled? Where would the group recommend getting the crystals
and or service for the icoms?

Thanks for the help.
