Subject: [repeater-builder] Andrew 7/8" Hardline Connector Needed

?

I have a length of the older SOLID CENTER CONDUCTOR 7/8” hardline and need one connector. I am not particular about the gender but an “N” female would be most useful. If one is available please contact me off list with your price including shipping to 34221. I would like to have this mid week next week if possible. If you do not HAVE a connector but know what MODEL NUMBER this type is, it might also be helpful. The cable is NOT the very old SPIRAL type but is the concentric circle type solid center. Thanks in advance.

Re: Quantar TFD6512A Preselector Filter

Easiest thing to do is set up one of your service monitors as a signal generator on your desired frequency.

I prefer to use the Duplex Out into the receiver antenna jack on the back.

From the RX test menu, Set the output port to Duplex Out and then generate a signal at -20dBm or so if you are totally off tune. Set the first tone generator at 1.000 kHz at 3 kHz deviation and set the second tone generator to your PL frequency like 0.123 kHz and at 0.7 kHz deviation.

Unmute the receiver by pressing volume up or down on the front panel.

Raise or lower the signal level of the generator so you can hear noise in the speaker audio.

Adjust the Helicals with a straight screw driver on the front of the receiver for minimum noise on the test tone.

Lower the output of the signal generator for more noise in the speaker and repeat tuning.

You should be able to get the signal generator down to -117 to -120 to where no more improvement will occur.

The alternative is to remove the helical assembly and set up the spectrum analyzer and tracking generator of the service monitor and tune the filter that way. You will need mini UHF to BNC adapters.
But pretty much you tune the filter to be flat top for 3 to 4 MHz wide. You should see about -1 to -1.5dB of loss. You can either center pass band to your receive frequency or this method allows an offset tune where you put the pass band edge at your receive frequency and you can gain additional rejection at the transmit frequency.

Re: Running a Repeater on a FM Broadcast Tower

Circulator, which is a passive element allowing the passing of RF signals only in one direction, is a key element in almost any RF circuit technology.?
An isolator is based on a circulator, having a dummy load on the reverse way port, thus isolating the RF signal passage truly to one direction.

Usually circulators or isolators come in one- or two-pack sets so that there are one or two circulators in a chain. Double-pack-isolators have better isolation in general as there are two sets of dummy loads in row in the reverse path preventing signal entering back to the port where RF is not wanted to enter.

Such cases where RF is not welcome into the transmitter output port are exactly situations where there are multiple strong signals present, and an unwanted signal entering the transmitter amplifier could generate IMD and unwanted mixing signal results. Isolators also improve?RF circuit matching, requiring of course that the isolators are tuned to the frequency used.

In repeater systems isolators should be always used in the transmitter chain, they are a very good method of getting rid of many difficult-to-solve sporadic issues.

You don’t need to tune into any frequency in particular. As mentioned, simply insert a power meter in the line and put a load on the other port. If you want to measure the level at a given frequency, then you’ll need additional equipment.

As far as what to do… you can trap/stub it, add band pass filtering, or ignore it (if you have equipment that tolerates it.) Why would we do something about it? Because hams are cheap. BpBr duplexers are used, with the owners not understanding that they really aren’t “band pass” as they think they are. Or, notch only duplexers are used, or crappy rf decks. Insert a lot of reasons.

An actual band pass filter, given adequate separation (i.e., FM broadcast/2m) can kill “all” the signal/voltage from the broadcast transmitter. Only passing the desired band, i.e., 2m, or even a narrower portion. Alternatively, you can trap the broadcast station, cleaning the line for all the downstream users, then add a band pass too, shielding your receiver from all kinds of unwanted signals.

19 inch rack mount cabinet for sale.

Hi everyone, I have a large, unable to be shipped, approximately 7 foot tall open rack with 19 inch rack rails that I'm thinking about selling. Would like something a little bit smaller and enclosed if possible. Wonder if anyone is interested in swapping a smaller one for this large one? It would have to be picked up in Janesville Wisconsin Since it's unable to be shipped.

If anyone wants to pick it up for purchase, $70, but I would also be willing to swap even up for a smaller one. This rack even has a built-in power strip for equipment power obviously :-).

  • Circulators are used all the time in LMR...Combiners have them, I've used them on conventional systems where IMD was a problem...never called them isolators in my 50+ years of LMR..

?

A circulator becomes an isolator when only two ports are passing the desired RF and the third port is terminated in a reject load.? Or to say it another way, a circulator is one of two components required to make an isolator.? Isolators only allow RF to flow between two adjacent ports, the third port being a dead end.

?

Circulators which are not in isolator service are often used for transmit/receive RF steering such as in microwave waveguide branching networks.? The circulators are oriented such that, for transmitters, RF flows from a given transmitter toward the antenna, and oriented the other way so RF flows from the antenna toward a given receiver, with transmitters and receivers each having single-channel waveguide filters in-line between the radio and the circulator.? Each filter presents a poor match to any/all other frequencies other than the channel they are tuned for, thus keeping off-channel RF flowing around the circulator until it reaches the intended port (either up the stack toward the antenna for transmitters, or down the stack toward receivers or the final termination at the bottom).

Re: Win10 CDM/HT Out of Band and Region Code Mods

One of the 6 meter repeater groups in SoCal has all of the hardware mods figured out for moving the CDM1250 low band up to 54 MHz with no degradation but they don't want it put out on the net for an unknown reason which I didn't push them on since they provided me the mods in person during a visit last year.
?
while driving thru LA last summer I dropped by a hams QTH and we did the mod to my CDM1250 for 6 meters on the spot so the documentation was not supplied to me.
?
As mentioned I had my cdm1250 6 meter modified on site and it works across 39 to 54 MHz with minimal Sens loss and 70 watts output on all of 6 meters.
?
I use it for CHP receive and 6 meter use while driving thru SoCal from my Oregon QTH to My Prescott AZ Qth and the radio works very well.
?
I just picked up a HT1250 tlast fall and I used the waris Python code which we used on my CDM1250 mobile to get OOB up to 54 MHz on both of my radios.
?
My Ht1250 works all the way up to 54 MHz without any mods and any sensitivity losses and 6.5 watts output.

If i can sell this other equipment and make back what im out of pocket for these upgrades then the Kenwood will be donated to the local ham club for a mobile command / site repeater. Re: Running a Repeater on a FM Broadcast Tower

Pre 1992.. before I left Detroit, one Amateur placed a 440 repeater on the side of an FM tower.. Antenna wise, He installed a pair of 4 (maybe 8) bay stacked dipoles in cardiod pattern? opposite sides of the tower..
Think of it as a cardiod pattern East and a cardiod pattern West.. totally omnidirectional except for a slight theoretical notch in the pattern North and South.
?
It had tremendous coverage, but Detroit is pretty flat..? with elevation variation of only 75 feet in 3-4 counties.

Re: Win10 CDM/HT Out of Band and Region Code Mods

Sounds good. Whenever I get a chance, I'll get something typed up and send it to you. Might be a little bit, my kids have a lot of school activities and they're keeping me pretty busy at the moment. I just wanted to share with yall where I found things on my Windows 10 machine to do the CPS mods.
