I know the feeling. I used to have a 2020 Edge that had the panormic
sunroof. It's beautiful, but nearly the entire roof is glass. Just a
narrow strip of metal at the front and back, and no way to get under it
to mount anything.
Plus the hood and rear hatch had curves that precluded trunk-lip type
mounts. Too narrow an opening on the hatch, and the curve on the hood
would have left the antenna leaning inward at about a 20 degree angle.
Had to go with an MFJ on-glass. Not very good. I could tune it for
resonance on UHF or on 2M, but not both. But that was the ONLY option.

i have a Bird swr meter so the lecture is right.

When I was installing mine, I used some packing take to hold it in place
and look at the SWR. If I had both squares lined up, the SWR was really

offset, the SWR was perfect. Has been working very well for a few years.

These are good for FreeDOS so the specs below are well suited

Via 800MHz CPU
128MB ram.
64MB disk on module, but that is not used with freeDOS on a USB thumb drive.

The problem is UV stability. I read in their documentation somewhere that the outer jacket isn't really UV stable. So look back at it again in 8-10 years.

Re: Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters.

Superflex is a form of Heliax.

Joe, K1ike

You really should consider Heliax over Superflex.

Re: Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters.

From the Commscope web site regarding FSJ-450B (1/2"superflex)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
"Jacket Material: PE
Outer Conductor Material: Corrugated copper
Dielectric Material: Foam PE
Flexibility: Super Flexible
Inner Conductor Material: Copperclad Aluminum Wire
Jacket Color: Black
Cable Impedance 50 ohm ¡À1 ohm

All HELIAX coaxial cables are jacketed for direct burial or
for corrosive environmental conditions. Standard jacketing
material is weather-resistant polyethylene suitable for use
in extreme climates."
--------------------------------------------------------------
FSJ-450B may not be as durable as LDF-450B but we've also used it outdoors for years with no problems.? I remember being told that the old superflex and the new superflex aren't the same type construction.

I will see if I can find something else at Dayton for the

recommendations of people using it in repeater service. We
found out about the LMR-400 braid issue in repeater service
too late, that is the main reason we are moving to superflex!

Search Google for "glass mount dual band antenna" prices range from
poor quality $30 to top quality $153.

Consider a trunk lip mount. ?I have used these on hoods and trunks as well as some other locations. ?

?Roger and Gervais,

I used a Larsen glass mount on my wife's 2001 Cadillac STS, until we had to replace the rear glass... Like Roger noted, the new glass must have been of a different "mix", as I could never get a good match with the antenna after replacement.? You'll also have to avoid the defrosted grid if there's one on/in the glass.

YMMV

Use caution with glass mounts.
Some vehicles have a high metal content in the window tint that seriously degrades performance.

Hi Gervais,

I have 2 of these from years ago. They are very old
stock, but are complete. They are marked 144-148
and 440-450.

They have an adjustment on the internal box. There
are no other marks on any of the components.

Have a look at the pictures.

Re: Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters.

If it is this type of Superflex, it might be fine.
But most of us refer to Superflex as something that is more like regular coax.

You really should consider Heliax over Superflex.

I will see if I can find something else at Dayton for the GMRS antenna. I purchased the CA-712EFC based on recommendations of people using it in repeater service. We found out about the LMR-400 braid issue in repeater service too late, that is the main reason we are moving to superflex!?
