Re: Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters.

If you can't find a DB408 / DB420, a similar one to the 712EFC would be the Comet GP-6 which will have a tiny bit less gain, but none of the desense issues.?? But the 408 or 420 will still beat it as far as signal to the horizon.

I will see if I can find something else at Dayton for the GMRS antenna. I purchased the CA-712EFC based on recommendations of people using it in repeater service. We found out about the LMR-400 braid issue in repeater service too late, that is the main reason we are moving to superflex!?

My friend bought a CA-712 for his 25 watt repeater with no preamp: 3 to 4 dB of desense.

Re: Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters.

I would strongly suggest against getting the Hustler G6 dual band antenna. We purchased one back about 2018 and it was great, we¡¯ve purchased three more since then and they were each progressively worse. The last one had the lowest SWR of 1.7:1 at 147.8 MHz. Their quality has gone downhill. ?Hustler, Customer Service was absolutely no help. We were able to return the last one.

If tuned incorrectly,? they could go spurious especially the UHFs...

But I had no problems with mine...iirc the 146.68 UTMB Galveston is still a SCR1000 on the air

Save your self the headache and time. Buy a commercialy made antenna. I like the Telewave ANT-450 or the Sinclair. Sinclair all the cable if is internal. Telewave it is external. If you deal with ice the black telewave hold up better. Both can be order with downtilt. I wouldn¡¯t go more than 6 degrees DT. I have the Telewave two bay version on my mountain top sites I. The Sierra Nevada mountains for 15 years no issues.?

They work well for combined systems 420-470 MHz. I have amatuer, GMRS and commercial repeaters all on two antennas. ?Saves money and time when adding more repeaters later.?

Re: Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters.

No problem,? I? understand about the stroke..had an older brother who suffered one before he passed..
I stilll have several Spectrum VHF, 2 - 220, as well as a home built UHF I got from a ham in El Paso 25 yrs ago.. the RF boards probably aren't worth a flip but at least the CW ID and COR boards are.. I just usually use an external controller anyway, gives me more versatility
Plus a Kendecomm on 220.. I did Micor conversion once but I wasn't impressed. I prefer the GE Master IIs myself.. did a couple of those and they turned out great. In fact the UHF Exciter is easier to convert to 220 than the VHF Exciter.
I has a cushcraft 4 pole on 220 but lost the elements via a theft at a tower site they were stored. Funny thing is I still have the harness. Never did like the crimp connectors on them.

I guess I need to kind of thin The Herd though. If anybody's interested in the 220 harness, I'll sell it because I don't need it. I can make my own finances up out of RG11 and 213..

And if anybody's interested in the Spectrum control boards or cor board, let me know again I don't need them.

My IFR A8000 is on the blink because the power supply died.? Been needing to get it working again so I can finish tuning up a UHF duplexer so I can ship that off asap! If I recall I can run it off the 12 volt input and I just found a square fuse cap for the back thanks to a friend of mine down on the road. Going to try and see if that works today or I'll just take it over to my friend's house who has a HP VNA but he's got a new girlfriend and you know what that means LOL
