Re: Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters.
If you can't find a DB408 / DB420, a similar one to the 712EFC would be the Comet GP-6 which will have a tiny bit less gain, but none of the desense issues.?? But the 408 or 420 will still beat it as far as signal to the horizon. Andy On Wed, May 7, 2025 at 11:19?AM Matt via <al0r=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: mobile antenna on the side windows???
I don't often use a glass mount antenna ... but when I do, I use the Larsen Dual band glass mount.?? Like this one:?

Re: Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters.
I would strongly suggest against getting the Hustler G6 dual band antenna. We purchased one back about 2018 and it was great, we¡¯ve purchased three more since then and they were each progressively worse. The last one had the lowest SWR of 1.7:1 at 147.8 MHz. Their quality has gone downhill. ?Hustler, Customer Service was absolutely no help. We were able to return the last one.

Re: Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters.
If tuned incorrectly,? they could go spurious especially the UHFs... But I had no problems with mine...iirc the 146.68 UTMB Galveston is still a SCR1000 on the air Chris On Tue, May 6, 2025, 2:59?PM Bob Dengler via <no6b=[email protected]> wrote:

A Spectrum SCR 1000! Glad to see it's still chugging along. I knew Joe DeCorsella , I think I spelled that right, from there start in the '70s. I have an S7R on 220 myself but I've got to recrystal it for my new pair.. same RF boards anyway. Tuned up properly they just work. Wasn't their slogan "They work everywhere" (referring to the frequency domain, hence why they're called Spectrum)? We had a 2 meter Spectrum in the LA area go wildly spurious in the LO chain. It was hilarious to key up all over the band to see where it was RXing at any given time. ?Always has great audio! IMHO that was their only redeeming quality. Bob NO6B |
Re: Multi-Bay Folded Dipole for 70cm
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSave your self the headache and time. Buy a commercialy made antenna. I like the Telewave ANT-450 or the Sinclair. Sinclair all the cable if is internal. Telewave it is external. If you deal with ice the black telewave hold up better. Both can be order with downtilt. I wouldn¡¯t go more than 6 degrees DT. I have the Telewave two bay version on my mountain top sites I. The Sierra Nevada mountains for 15 years no issues.?They work well for combined systems 420-470 MHz. I have amatuer, GMRS and commercial repeaters all on two antennas. ?Saves money and time when adding more repeaters later.? My .02 Jim? ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI agree with this assessment of the 420. We have a DB 420, 16 Bay UHF on 440.950 and like Dave says, it really screams! Re: Multi-Bay Folded Dipole for 70cm
I'm assuming this is an amateur repeater ? There are some used 408s, 404s, and if you want to go top shelf, some 420s online?for sale.? You just have to hunt for them ...? ?I paid $250 for our DB-420B.? Though it's cut for 450-470, It has plenty of sweep into the amateur 440 band.? ?Ours is on 444.000+ .... 1.5 to 1 SWR.? It really "screams" !! 40 mile range depending on topography. On Tue, May 6, 2025 at 11:07?AM Dale O'Neill via <djoneill63=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters.
No problem,? I? understand about the stroke..had an older brother who suffered one before he passed.. I stilll have several Spectrum VHF, 2 - 220, as well as a home built UHF I got from a ham in El Paso 25 yrs ago.. the RF boards probably aren't worth a flip but at least the CW ID and COR boards are.. I just usually use an external controller anyway, gives me more versatility Plus a Kendecomm on 220.. I did Micor conversion once but I wasn't impressed. I prefer the GE Master IIs myself.. did a couple of those and they turned out great. In fact the UHF Exciter is easier to convert to 220 than the VHF Exciter. I has a cushcraft 4 pole on 220 but lost the elements via a theft at a tower site they were stored. Funny thing is I still have the harness. Never did like the crimp connectors on them. I guess I need to kind of thin The Herd though. If anybody's interested in the 220 harness, I'll sell it because I don't need it. I can make my own finances up out of RG11 and 213.. And if anybody's interested in the Spectrum control boards or cor board, let me know again I don't need them. My IFR A8000 is on the blink because the power supply died.? Been needing to get it working again so I can finish tuning up a UHF duplexer so I can ship that off asap! If I recall I can run it off the 12 volt input and I just found a square fuse cap for the back thanks to a friend of mine down on the road. Going to try and see if that works today or I'll just take it over to my friend's house who has a HP VNA but he's got a new girlfriend and you know what that means LOL Chris On Tue, May 6, 2025, 11:27?AM neal Newman via <cozy659=[email protected]> wrote:
