Re: Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters.
It makes a great base antenna.?? But yeah, I have one too I would let go for $50 that's brand new. (as in never installed outside).?? I made the same mistake, because my intent was also repeater (25 years ago).?? So don't feel bad.?? Live and learn.?? And yes, it could work for a while or at low power, or if not using a preamp.? Re: Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters.
I will see if I can find something else at Dayton for the GMRS antenna. I purchased the CA-712EFC based on recommendations of people using it in repeater service. We found out about the LMR-400 braid issue in repeater service too late, that is the main reason we are moving to superflex!? |
Re: Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters.
I would strongly suggest against getting the Hustler G6 dual band antenna. We purchased one back about 2018 and it was great, we¡¯ve purchased three more since then and they were each progressively worse. The last one had the lowest SWR of 1.7:1 at 147.8 MHz. Their quality has gone downhill. ?Hustler, Customer Service was absolutely no help. We were able to return the last one.

If tuned incorrectly,? they could go spurious especially the UHFs... But I had no problems with mine...iirc the 146.68 UTMB Galveston is still a SCR1000 on the air Chris On Tue, May 6, 2025, 2:59?PM Bob Dengler via <no6b=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters.
No problem,? I? understand about the stroke..had an older brother who suffered one before he passed.. I stilll have several Spectrum VHF, 2 - 220, as well as a home built UHF I got from a ham in El Paso 25 yrs ago.. the RF boards probably aren't worth a flip but at least the CW ID and COR boards are.. I just usually use an external controller anyway, gives me more versatility Plus a Kendecomm on 220.. I did Micor conversion once but I wasn't impressed. I prefer the GE Master IIs myself.. did a couple of those and they turned out great. In fact the UHF Exciter is easier to convert to 220 than the VHF Exciter. I has a cushcraft 4 pole on 220 but lost the elements via a theft at a tower site they were stored. Funny thing is I still have the harness. Never did like the crimp connectors on them. I guess I need to kind of thin The Herd though. If anybody's interested in the 220 harness, I'll sell it because I don't need it. I can make my own finances up out of RG11 and 213.. And if anybody's interested in the Spectrum control boards or cor board, let me know again I don't need them. My IFR A8000 is on the blink because the power supply died.? Been needing to get it working again so I can finish tuning up a UHF duplexer so I can ship that off asap! If I recall I can run it off the 12 volt input and I just found a square fuse cap for the back thanks to a friend of mine down on the road. Going to try and see if that works today or I'll just take it over to my friend's house who has a HP VNA but he's got a new girlfriend and you know what that means LOL Chris On Tue, May 6, 2025, 11:27?AM neal Newman via <cozy659=[email protected]> wrote:

The receiver is working, transmitter not working but I can hear a weak carrier on 146.775. Included is a spare parts receiver crystaled for 147.405RX. This is definitely a project repeater. Multi-Bay Folded Dipole for 70cm
Greetings everyone,
?
I am new to the group and looking for help on constructing a multi-bay 70cm antenna for our repeater.?
I am thinking of using copper pipe for durability.
I have looked in all of my antenna books but they are not helping.
Does anyone have plans or information for such a project that would get me started.
?
Thanks in advance,
Dale?

Re: Looking for advice on antenna placement for our radio club repeaters.
You would be better off finding an old 450-470 db loop style db408 for the GMRS machine. Most two way radio shops have them laying around fakes down from commercial sites. I picked up 3 of them for under $100 each.

712EFC is not a repeater antenna.? It's a base antenna not made for duplex operation.?? It has braided copper coax inside.?? That's why Comet calls them base antennas.? You will find the issue as duplex noise. Andy WJ9J On Tue, May 6, 2025 at 1:15?AM Dale KB9JJA via <digid=[email protected]> wrote:

The club is adding a GMRS repeater to the site and the main question I have is, what is everyone¡¯s opinion of side is mounting a Comet CA-712EFC directly opposite the 220 Tri bander. ?Both standoffs are around 2.5 ¨C 3 feet off each side of the tower. ? Also is there a rule of thumb on how much separation I should have from the top of the two side mounted antennas to the base of the top antenna? ? This is what I have for the install: Top of Tower - Comet GP-9 GP9N 2m/440 fed with 7/8 superflex ¨C 25 watts Side Mount - Comet CX-333 (Used for 220Mhz) fed with 7/8 superflex ¨C 10 watts Side Mount - Comet CA-712EFC (GMRS) Fed with ? superflex ¨C 25 watts ? Thank you to all that have responded to my post.
I have read all of your message with interest.
And I consireded to good and bad of all the option possible.
I have decided to pull the 2175 Hz encoder of my Old MSR and fit it to the new Tait T800 s¨¦ries 2.
I have a filler plate for a empty slot i should be able to put the encoder there.
Best 73 to all.
