Re: Michigan Mighty Mite
Hi Casey, Coincidentally, I collect vintage transistors and have a couple of CK722s and lots of pinched tops from the 1950s.? As a child of the 1960s, I grew up in the discrete component transistor days and have never really gotten comfortable with integrated circuits.? Amongst the transistors in my collection are these 2N1143 transistors.? Two of these type were used in the beacon transmitter attached to the Echo 1 satellite from 1960.? I found the schematic of the beacon in an issue of 1961 RCA Review.? So one pile of parts on my workbench will be my attempt to recreate that beacon using two of my collection.?? 73, Brian On Tue, Feb 18, 2025 at 3:51?PM Casey KC9IH via <kc9ih=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Michigan Mighty Mite
My early Parts "inventory" was an occasional CK722, but typically 2N107's or 2N170's (and 1N34"s) (thanks to Allied Radio Mail Order). As I got older, my favorite Designs were all using 2N3053's. I don't think even I have any 2N2222"s here at all.?
?
NOTE: For Decades I have wanted to try a 2N3055, in a TX, maybe on my next Build. It should be good for a few more mw output.?

A terminal strip - very old school. Using an analog meter to test it is karmically correct. Very nice build, not ugly at all. On Sun, Feb 16, 2025 at 4:31?PM Brian N4TRB via <brpjournalist=[email protected]> wrote:

Hi Brian, I don't know what's typical.? I'm using a 2N2222A FWIW.? I thought about putting in a transistor socket and trying every NPN transistor in my junk box.? Unfortunately, I'm lazy... bp On Sun, Feb 16, 2025 at 4:25?PM Brian KB9BVN via <kb9bvn=[email protected]> wrote:

Michigan Mighty Mite
I've accepted the challenge.? Here's my contribution to the MMM Revival. I'm not sure if this falls into the cute or the ugly category & glad it doesn't matter.? But that heat sink is definitely cute.? And the WW2 vintage FT-243 crystal is likely unique.? With 12 volts it's giving 0.4 watts.? I am very curious as to how that will compare with the dozens, maybe hundreds, of MMM rigs that show up at FDIM for the revival.? I'll bring a few QSL cards in the hope of making some MMM to MMM?contacts.?? This was fun. 73, Brian Brian R. Page, N4TRB Threads:? +1.678.427.1719 |
FDIM Update
开云体育I have updated the registration list as of 2/15/25. Also we need to remind everyone that the block of rooms we had reserved for FDIM have sold out.? If you want to stay at the Fairborn Holdiay Inn (FDIM Central) you can call them periodically and see if they have had any cancellations.? Also a reminder, if you are participating in the TTL Transmitter Challenge, and need a kit, contact Rex Harper on the website to get yours ordered.? While there, be sure to check out all the cool kits Rex has available now.? FDIM is T minus 90 days and counting down! Many thanks to our prize sponsors! Also while at FDIM, why not take a few pictures and write a few lines about your experience and send it off to Mike Malone KD5KXF so he can include your write up in the July QRP Quarterly?
