FDIM Build-a-Thon Question
10
Hello! This isn't my first FDIM, but it is my first Build-a-Thon. So, a couple of questions for those more experienced. May I assume that I should bring my normal soldering station & various items that I normally use in kit building? Since I ordered the kit from Rex on his web site some time ago, may I assume that since it hasn't shown up on my doorstep that it will magically appear at the Build-a-Thon? Thanks, Brian -- Brian R. ARS Spartan Sprint - Monday Evening QRP Fun!
Overview & Rule Summary FOR THE ADVENTURE RADIO SOCIETY SPARTAN SPRINT What is an ARS Spartan Sprint and how can I participate? The Adventure Radio Society Spartan Sprint is a two hour casual QRP contest. It is held on the first Monday of every month to encourage QRP operators to get on and go to somewhere near the standard QRP frequencies on the 80-40-20-15-10 Meter bands for an evening of fun. It is open to all QRP CW operators – there is not any membership requirement. Operating portable and/or using lightweight minimalist (spartan) equipment is encouraged, but is not required. THE CONTEST PERIOD FOR EACH TIME ZONE IS: EASTERN 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Local. CENTRAL 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Local MOUNTAIN 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Local PACIFIC 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Local Does not shift for DST – This event is always at these Local Times (UTC for STANDARD TIME : 0100Z to 0300Z) (UTC for DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME : 0000Z to 0200Z) POWER OUTPUT To keep with its minimalist theme, Maximum Spartan Sprint power output is 5 watts. However, a Spartan Sprint participant running 5 watts who is submitting results is allowed to work a non-QRP station. That contact will count. (A Non-QRP station is not permitted to submit results for this QRP event.) OPERATION We operate CW on 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters, around standard QRP frequencies. Call CQ SP Or listen for calling stations. EXCHANGE - Your Call Sign - Your State or Province - Your Power output SCORING Scoring is somewhat unique - score is calculated based on [Number of Contacts] / [Station Weight]. Working the same station on a different band counts as another contact. The weight of your station consists of everything except your antenna and feed line. If your station includes your home-based rig, antenna tuner, DC power supply, heavy paddle or bug - obviously you are not lightweight - simply report your weight as 30 lbs. (That is the default weight for the Tubby division.) REPORTING To report your results, go to 3830scores.com, and select the ‘ARS Spartan Sprint’ (on the Left side). You will enter your [Station Weight] and the [Number of Contacts] that you made. Soapbox comments may include your power, equipment, antennas, band conditions, outdoor experiences, and anything else you wish to comment on. Scores will be Automatically Calculated Reports will be available for both the Skinny (lightweight) and Tubby (heavyweight) entrants. WORKING HIGHER-POWERED STATIONS: You may be contacted by a higher-powered station who is not familiar with the Spartan Sprint and its rules. As long as you are running QRP, you may count that QSO. Looking forward to working you during the next Spartan Sprint. 73, Jody – K3JZD on behalf of Russ Carpenter - AA7QU and Richard Fisher - KI6SN The Adventure Radio Society Pioneers Last Updated : 03APR25 Mark Prather - WB9HFK Celebrating my 54th year as an Amateur Radio (Ham) Operator.

Michigan QRP Club Weekly Zoom Chat
We had seven folks join the MI QRP Zoom Chat on 03 April. Please join us Thursday April 10 (and every Thursday) at 4PM Eastern for the Michigan QRP Club weekly QRP Chat where the main topics will be QRP and other ham interests. New hams are encouraged to participate and ask questions. It's fun, it's easy, and it's free. You only need a computer, a smart phone, or a tablet that can connect to the Internet. OR if you can't be close to any of those you can join by audio with any standard phone. Just follow the directions below. No software needs be loaded or installed. Anyone can join and non members are welcome. Details are here: https://www.miqrp.net/zoom Zoom ID: 811 0835 6229 The topic for Thursday, 10 April will be an open forum. Ed AB8DF Ernie NE3TE Tony W8CDC Stan WB8QJZ Stuart M0SGV John K4XNY Jean in France John is near Atlanta. He has a 50 foot end feed in the backyard, 20 meter dipole and a 17 foot Chameleon antenna vertical. He uses a Wolf River coil for 40 meters with the 17 foot vertical. https://chameleonantenna.com/collections/vertical-antennas/products/stainless-steal-whip Ernie just got a NANOVNA and wants to test a choke he built. But Taxes!!! are limiting his haming. Stuart got his Michigan Mighty Mite to work and will add some LPF from QRP Labs before getting on the air with it. He just got a TinySA but has not played with it yet. Stan is doing some Slow scan TV using satellites. ISS is one of the birds he’s is playing with. We all want to hear about the results next week. Tony survived all of the bad weather. Got a Michigan Mighty Mite board from the QRP Guys and is going though his junk box to see what parts he may need to order. Ernie is still looking at that the PERformer Antenna and how to add weight to stabilize the tripod. Here are articles that has some info on elevated radials: https://rudys.typepad.com/files/qst-march-2010-ground-systems.pdf https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LwSbXXeovjJdT8ijpOi-9FYR--nNsxgD/view Jean in France could not get the audio to work. We all hope he can join us next time. We talked about the new Yaesu QRP radio and the rumors about it. One rumor was that it has the same receiver front end as the FTDX10 receiver and will have similar capability which ranks highest on the Sherwood list. The agenda for the 10 April QRP Chat: Ernie to do a short introduction and acknowledge any new folks to the Zoom chat. The topic for next week will be an open forum. During the open forum anyone can take the floor. We will go one by one until all have had a chance to have the floor. Files, pictures and presentations can be shared if you have any. Please try to stay muted when someone has the floor. Thanks Ed AB8DF

Updated (and final) Version of T41 book
3
All: Al and I have just updated the 3rd edition T41 book. We moved the calibration info from Appendix C to its own chapter (20). The expanded instructions and new software make T41 calibration much easier. We have also updated the narrative in numerous places and have concentrated discussions on the V12.6 release where those changes are important. Some of you are asking yourself: Do I need to buy this update. Truthfully, if you already own the 3rd edition, we would say no. Most of the important changes are discussed on the web site and photos and schematics are available there, too. On the other hand, this is the last change we will be making to this book. Al and I have been at this for almost 7 years now and we're getting a little burned out. For that reason, we are turning this site over to Oliver King, KI3P, and Dr. Bill Schmidt, K9HZ. Al and I will continue to be active relative to the T41, but will leave the details to Oliver and Bill. If you do want the final version of the book, its new cover looks like this: The book is actually available now, but the Amazon ad will not reflect the new cover for about 10 more days. (If you order now, it will be the new version.) If you are attending the FDIM conference this May (coincides with Dayton Hamvention and the conference hotel is about 10 miles away), Al and I will be selling autographed copies on Thursday night (May 15th) at the conference hotel starting around 8PM. We have reduced the price of the autographed copies from $12,500 to $40...which is a deal and less than the Amazon price! If you have a previous copy of the book, bring it along and we will be happy to sign it. This has been a fun project and we want to thanks the hundreds of people have contributed to its improvement over time. We hope that continues long after Al and I are gone. 72, Jack Purdum, W8TEE Al Peter, AC8GY

There is a PRC319 Free 'Loaner' available to any ham in the USA. If you have been wanting to try one out, or use it for a club presentation, Here is your chance. If you are not familiar with the 319, you can watch the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCXb2M66fro or read G0ozs's web site at: https://g0ozs.co.uk/mdwiki/clansman/#prc319.md The 319 is a fixed frequency, channelized HF radio, so there is no tuning around. It runs CW, SSB or Data at 5W or 50W. If you want to borrow it, i will send you the PRC319 Loan Agreement. When it becomes available, i will notify you and you will then send me $100 for initial shipping. You must pay the shipping both ways (about $200 total). I will refund any excess shipping fees. You can borrow it for up to 90 days. Alternate plan: You can reserve it for your 2 week vacation to Colorado and pick it up in COS and deliver it or ship it back. Pick it up, use it for POTA/SOTA's and return it all free. Sorry, no shipments can be made outside of the CONUS. (Not available to FL, AK, HI, or PR). The radio comes with an Antenna Tuner, Handset, Satchel, Battery/AC Power supply and an 8 foot whip. You must use your own key/keyer. It can only ship UPS because of the battery restrictions.
