Re: Fox Hunt Tomorrow!

Bill says:
What kind of antenna will you be using for the fox hunt.
I will be looking for you as I do not have a pelt this season and
hope to get at least one this time... Thanks and good hunting.<<

I will be alternating between a Force 12 C4 (fancy way of saying a rotable
dipole[g]) and a GAP Titan vertical. The C4 is a good performer on 40 and
surprisingly directional. The vertical is noisy by comparison but often will
hear signals at 90 deg to the beam heading, so I check often.

The 8th district should be pretty easy tomorrow night from here in CO so if it
takes a while keep at it-- bound to hear you eventually!

Good luck...

Fox Hunt Tomorrow!

Hi, Guys--

ET will be getting on his bike and heading for the auspiciously full moon
tomorrow night. Yes, I'll be one of your Foxes and I've got a pelt here
with your name on it.

If you haven't been participating in the Hunts, please visit
www.qrpfoxhunt.org for all the details.

In accordance with the rules, I'll be somewhere in the vicinity of 7.040,
but I'm not going to tell you where. And when you do find me, PLEASE do
not post a spot on the list! It's not fair to people who won't see your
message till the next day.

I will be working split at the beginning-- please listen for UP or DN when
I call CQ and call me above or below my transmitting freq. How far off
you should go is kind of indefinite, but it should be at least 500Hz (half
a KC). Most RITs are capable of putting you off that far, but if you can't
work split don't panic-- I'll be listening closer and closer to
"zero-beat" as the hunt progresses. If history is any guide, I will be
working zero beat for the last half hour of the hunt and will also be
happy to take slow down as much as needed.

The moon is full, the gods of propagation have been propitiated, and
there's plenty of "lead" in my pencil. Do stop by and pick up a pelt!

Good luck in the Hunt...

Same here, again. I tried the vertical and sloper and bagged neither. At
least I heard more this time. If I don't get a pelt this week, I may just
hibernate for the winter and build a QRO amp. Something to warm the
basement on those cold nights.

Dennis, NU8S

Well like the last 3 weeks I got nothing to show for my efforts in
Ohio but I see this week 2 of our ohioians got a pelt....
congratulations to them and maybe things are getting better.
Maybe it is time to try a different type antenna. Now that the
holiday is over maybe I will stick something up in the back yard.
Will be in there this week again....

KG0PP - Preliminary log for Nov 25

jimford80041

What fun! My first time as Fox and I was a little nervous to say the
least. Thanks to everyone for going so easy on me.

I apologize for those I missed, conditions were extremely weak to the
east coast and south east. 40 m was very short with strong signals
from CO to TX, NM, KS, CA, OK, MN and WI.

Here is my prelim. log.
