WX2S prelim log for 80m hunt 2025-03-21
Skip wasn't in, though I did bag hounds in Colorado and Montana. Stayed on 3554.44 all evening, went simplex at 01:49Z. Regrets for those who were trying to get me and who I was never quite able to hear well enough.

Please email any corrections by 0000Z Friday night and I'll post an updated log. Thanks for the hunt!

Re: 40m Foxhunt tonight
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks Glenn for perceptive observation. Here on the far left/north I experience totally different propagation than the rest of the country,so those who criticize a choice to go simplex ?have no clue what I¡¯m hearing (or not). And given that my next session will be for me entirely in daylight 40 M will be very interesting,to put it mildly. I use the Vladivostok Russian naval beacon on 7039.5 as my propagation indicator-it¡¯s closer than the east coast¡. I often hear JA¡¯s and R/U hams on 40 before much of the US. I think this is hard to grasp for some of the hunters.?Dan Presley 503-701-3871 danpresley@me. com? N7CQR@... On Mar 19, 2025, at 09:50, n4mj via groups.io <n4mj@...> wrote:

Re: 40m Foxhunt tonight
With many many ways to separate?the pack, from not hearing due to noise, props, rx setting, and the like...it is tuff to tell what the FOX was or wasn't hearing, unless he tells us. Pretty much the same as working a dxpedition to a rare country... the pack is controlled... or not... by the FOX. As many ways to hear or not a HOUND.. there are at least as many ways to effect being heard. taking into account that we have a limited amount of time, especially when QSB and props are taken into?consideration....? not to mention the vagrancies of the Prop Princess, whose whole family get into it at times...? The LIVE LOGGING does seem to help, by verifying?the FOX heard your call.. that does NOT however, verify the FOX has your state or name correct. DO NOT RELY on CALL HISTORY.. that may not be what the HOUND sent. And thus the supposedly?good pelt vaporizes. And? last but by far not least.. is the?assumption that reciprocal?hearing is happening... all the time..? and THAT is NOT always true. What I hear may or may not be what another HOUND or FOX may be hearing... One station may be overly loud to me.. but weaker than.. yep.. that weak to the FOX... and that other HOUND that is calling incessantly.. may or may not be being heard by FOX..? ?There are a lot of tools in the tool shed.. if one doesn't work;.. try another... and another... and another.. when you've tried them all.. start over.? No this isn't the end all be all.. but it is by far the best hands on Prop Study I have ever found. On Wed, Mar 19, 2025 at 9:25?AM Earl Morse via <n8ss2014=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: 40m Foxhunt tonight
I, too, was surprised at the early simplex op but I didn't give up. I looked for the other Fox and worked him then went back to the TX Fox. Throughout the hunt his signal was hammered by rapid QSB, digital signal noise, and QRM. Hearing his signal was a challenge in/of itself.? Timing was everything for this Fox - QSB, QRM (digi and foreign) plus Hounds calling.? The frequency chosen could have been better but that was his choice. Maybe he wasn't hearing all the foreign and digital noise I was hearing, only he can address that. Fox Hunting as we do it is only a game lasting 1.5 hours; sometimes you win sometime NOT but unless you're the Fox you don't know what is being heard at his station. Patience and tenacity are much needed qualities of a hunter. Thanks for the pelt Seth. 73 de n4mj//glenn ? ¡°PLEASE REMOVE all email addresses before you send it on and use BCC?option when forwarding" ? Thank you!?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThank you for the contact sir¡¡. You were weak and with QSB, but mostly you had a clear frequency so it was only a matter of timing the QSB to get you.? Using both receivers on different antennas helped on my end.? So I began hearing you better as the hunt ran on, and was able to slip in. ? Vy73 - Mike - KD5KC. El Paso, Texas - DM61rt. Hi Rick,
I think due to conditions you may have copied someone else who thought you called them as I never heard your report and I never sent a report at all! I tried to call back a couple times to complete the contact but you told me you had me! so you can remove k6xr as I never sent a report and did not copy one.
?
Thanks for doing an incredible job in those conditions!
