K4OAQ Log for Thu Night 24Jan2025 80M Fox Hunt
开云体育I was busy for a while & then not so much. I didn’t get past the WY & CO group. Just wondering if anybody on out there tried. I don’t think I didn’t hear anybody I didn’t eventually dig out. Several times my logging pgm just didn’t act right. I guess it had to be my AHK scheme. I’m sure you noticed a diff between me sending & the machine sending. But since only 7 Qs in the last 30 mins, there was plenty of time for mistakes not to make a difference. Tks for the Qs hounds. Until next time 72 & 3, Fritz K4OAQ ? Fox Hunt Thursday Night, Jan 23, 80M K4OAQ & KW4NJA
开云体育Hounds! I’ll be the other fox in the 80-meter hunt on Thursday evening, January 23rd (January 24th GMT date), along with Scott KW4NJA. I’ll be located in Dublin, VA handing out pelts between 0200 and 0330Z and between 3550-7060 or 3560-7070 kHz. It’s ur job to figure it out. I’ll be running a Kenwood TS-590SG turned down to 5W into the 80M dipole running across the boom of my Steppir DB36 up abt 75. I plan to post dots you know where (http://www.k4oaq.com/fox) so you can see if you & I were successful in QSOing. I will start running split, up abt 1 kHz, and will change to simplex when I hear no one UP. Exchange is the usual RST SPC Name PWR (RST VA FRITZ 5W). I will repeat your call at the end of my exchange, so PLEASE be sure that I got it right before sending your full exchange. I’ll start with the dipole broadside to NE/SW. I’ll try hard to remember to turn it NW/SE after abt 45 mins. I really don’t think it’ll make that much diff tho. I’ve two bi-directional short beverages, abt 280 ft long. They’re NE/SW & NW/SE. Sometimes in other contest people with weak sigs give up on me. I’m thinking they’re probably not QRP guys so you guys probably don’t need encouragement. I assure I don’t lose patients trying to dig a weak sig out. I do encourage you not to tell me your QRP as well as if I’m just missing one letter of your call, don’t send all of them just the one letter where the question mark is, e.g., K4O?Q. Send the A 5 times or so. Of course if some other letters are wrong then send them all. I cud ramble on abt do’s & dont’s, but I’m probably preaching to the choir. I’m looking fwd to it! 72 & 73, Fritz K4OAQ ? |

Re: K4PQC Preliminary Log for 40 Meters 1-22-2025 some observations
开云体育Hi Phil.? Since you were operating at approximately 7.033.14 I’m assuming you mean the Hounds were calling you below 7.030.? I’m just not sure what you mean by the QRPFox band.? If I was the Fox and I’ve been the Fox on several occasions I would go ahead and work them.? I don’t recall anything in the rules about the Hound having to be in a particular portion of the band.? I would even venture to say the Hound could call you cross band if he wanted to.? I don’t know how you would know if he was calling you or not though. ? Now if you mean you were listening up from your TX frequency to 1K up then I would suggest widening your listening range.? For example rather than listening from 7033.00 to 7034.00 while TXing on 7033.00 listen from 3034 to 7035 or 7036. ? Than again maybe I’m just full of it and need to take a nap.? One tends to get that way later in life. ? Regards, ? Pat – KZ5J ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Phil via groups.io

Again I didn't answer these callers.? Was I wrong?? Are there hardened rules?? I am sure if I wasn't in the middle of a rare southern snow storm I could have handed out many more pelts.?? ? Re: K4PQC Preliminary Log for 40 Meters 1-22-2025 some observations
开云体育Well, and FWIW, I will often slip down to like 0.95 offset.? I have in the past seen foxes answering hounds down at like 0.6 offset, on a wide filter you could hear the FOX and the HOUND on the main receiver.? I do not know that there is a “RULE” for that.? If there is, I don’t know of it.? I move around myself.? Sometimes I go a little lower than the lowest, sometimes I go a little higher than the highest.? Sometimes the waterfall shows a gap in the middle and I’ll try to slip in there. Vy73 - Mike - KD5KC. El Paso, Texas - DM61rt. SOTA W5T-Texas Association Manager.

Re: Skunked Thu 22Jan2025 Z
Rick, you gave up too soon.? Frequently I'll pick two or three calls out of the pile to try and be ready for the next call.? I distinctly remember hearing your call.? And, now that you mention it, I'm surprised I didn't get you in the log.? Perhaps more hounds moved in and covered you up on subsequent calls?
?
I think the "persistence" award goes to NX1K last night.? Mark tried many times before I was finally able to decipher his call.
?
The guys out west have an advantage with me.? A "6" or "7" in the call always seems to grab my attention.? ?John also has an advantage with his VE3 call.
?
I'm sorry I didn't hand out more pelts.

Re: Skunked Thu 22Jan2025 Z
开云体育Up here in SE Wisconsin I heard K9DRP a solid 599 and he is about 300 miles south.I called and called but no luck. ?K4PQC was 549 559 with QSB. I called and called and decided I was just QRM so I went back at it after about 30 minutes and snagged him. K4PQC had one heck of a pileup and he had a challenge for sure picking calls out of the pileup. ? NK9G On Jan 22, 2025, at 6:30?AM, FritzOAQ via groups.io <Fritz@...> wrote:
