Not correct Earl. I recorded my session and I was calling for up-up until 0310Z. ?I have never gone simplex that early in a hunt for many years. It is never a good idea. Almost everyone I managed to work except the last 2 callers were up at least KHz.?

People started calling simplex because the UP went away in the CQ about 20 minutes in..? It surprised me but I figured he just ran out of stations and decided to go simplex.? It soon was obvious that he couldn't hear as there were lots of folks calling simplex and up and nobody?was getting worked.? I stuck with it the whole hunt as his signals were building here and I thought there might be a chance.? ?Note to foxes: when operating? split be careful not to tune the RX VFO too low as to make it appear that you are simplex and be sure to say UP in your CQ.

I usually don't quit the hunts even if I can't hear the fox.? I dissect the band, figure out where?he is then wait.? Sometimes I get rewarded by a slight variation in propagation that makes a qso possible if only for a brief moment.? Waterfalls, spotting networks, etc are ok but I don't have access to those in the shack (mine is located in an outbuilding) and rely on my ability to dissect the band and figure out what is going on.

BTW, hounds call in the blind and there are those who don't subscribe?to the one shot-one kill concept.? (I feel guilty if I call more than once but sometimes you call early and there is a gap there that just begs to be filled with your callsign.)? As a fox, I have had stations call incessantly to the point where I had to wait 3, 4, 5, calls before they took a break so that I could go back to them.? Haven't gotten to the point where I deleted them out of the log but the thought sometimes crosses my mind.? However, I am trying for a score too so every QSO counts.??

Anyway it's a fun distraction that gets me out into the shack a couple times a week.??

I can't figure this one out, because one would think that NO HOUND would call the fox in the blind, no hound would transmit without at least hearing the fox, and no hound would deliberately call on top of the FOX.? The only thing I can imagine is that one hound didn't hear you say UP and decided that you were already simplex.? So that hound started calling on simplex, and others joined in.? I believe I picked out at least 3 call signs.? I did hear you send UP a few times - once the hounds calling you on simplex died down.?
