Fox applications for this summer are online!
The webpage for applying to be a 20 meter Fox this summer is up and running! It appears the Scorekeeper wants us to send him a screenshot of the application, rather than using the FormFill route. Please please please, if you have been tempted to be a Fox in the past, take a stab! It's fun! We need you! It pays $100 an hour! Well, 2 out of 3 ain't bnad. I'm attaching the screenshot I Dale, as a visual reminder we're not supposed to use the webpage itself. (I tried clicking the "Submit" button, and nothing happened... so that's what I assume is going on... I'm not an official Foxhunt committee person, so I am not 100% sure about this, but it makes sense given the issues we've seen in previous seasons. ARS Spartan Sprint - Tonight!
3
Overview & Rule Summary FOR THE ADVENTURE RADIO SOCIETY SPARTAN SPRINT What is an ARS Spartan Sprint and how can I participate? The Adventure Radio Society Spartan Sprint is a two hour casual QRP contest. It is held on the first Monday of every month to encourage QRP operators to get on and go to somewhere near the standard QRP frequencies on the 80-40-20-15-10 Meter bands for an evening of fun. It is open to all QRP CW operators ¨C there is not any membership requirement. Operating portable and/or using lightweight minimalist (spartan) equipment is encouraged, but is not required. THE CONTEST PERIOD FOR EACH TIME ZONE IS: EASTERN 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Local. CENTRAL 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Local MOUNTAIN 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Local PACIFIC 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Local Does not shift for DST ¨C This event is always at these Local Times (UTC for STANDARD TIME : 0100Z to 0300Z) (UTC for DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME : 0000Z to 0200Z) POWER OUTPUT To keep with its minimalist theme, Maximum Spartan Sprint power output is 5 watts. However, a Spartan Sprint participant running 5 watts who is submitting results is allowed to work a non-QRP station. That contact will count. (A Non-QRP station is not permitted to submit results for this QRP event.) OPERATION We operate CW on 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters, around standard QRP frequencies. Call CQ SP Or listen for calling stations. EXCHANGE - Your Call Sign - Your State or Province - Your Power output SCORING Scoring is somewhat unique - score is calculated based on [Number of Contacts] / [Station Weight]. Working the same station on a different band counts as another contact. The weight of your station consists of everything except your antenna and feed line. If your station includes your home-based rig, antenna tuner, DC power supply, heavy paddle or bug - obviously you are not lightweight - simply report your weight as 30 lbs. (That is the default weight for the Tubby division.) REPORTING To report your results, go to 3830scores.com, and select the ¡®ARS Spartan Sprint¡¯ (on the Left side). You will enter your [Station Weight] and the [Number of Contacts] that you made. Soapbox comments may include your power, equipment, antennas, band conditions, outdoor experiences, and anything else you wish to comment on. Scores will be Automatically Calculated Reports will be available for both the Skinny (lightweight) and Tubby (heavyweight) entrants. WORKING HIGHER-POWERED STATIONS: You may be contacted by a higher-powered station who is not familiar with the Spartan Sprint and its rules. As long as you are running QRP, you may count that QSO. Looking forward to working you during the next Spartan Sprint. 73, Jody ¨C K3JZD on behalf of Russ Carpenter - AA7QU and Richard Fisher - KI6SN The Adventure Radio Society Pioneers Last Updated : 03APR25 Mark Prather - WB9HFK Celebrating my 54th year as an Amateur Radio (Ham) Operator.

K4BAI Log Fox Extravaganza
Here is my log for last night's Fox Extravaganza. Thanks for all QSOs. I heard N8SS and NO2D working others on 40M, but never heard them call CQ or answer my CQs. From the logs, it seems that I should have tried 80M earlier than I did. I thought the best strategy was to work 40M hte first half and 80M the last half, but it appears that by the time I was calling on 80M, most hunters had given up on that band. Please look for me and KU8E operating as W4AN/M in the FLorida QSO Party this weekend. 73/72, John, K4BAI. 7041 0106 KB5FCF 569 OK JOEL 4W 7041 0106 K9CW 599 IL DREW 5W 7041 0108 KG5UK 559 OK BRAD 5W 7041 0108 K2TW 599 VA TOM 5W 7041 0112 WA4ZOF 599 GA TOM 5W 7041 0113 KO4VW 559 GA STEVE 5W 7043 0116 W4CMG 599 TN CATHY 5W 7043 0118 W2SH 559 NJ CHAS 5W 7045 0122 KR0U 339 CO TIM 5W 7038 0125 K4PQC 559 GA PHIL 5W 7038 0126 NK9G 559 WI RICK 5W 7039 0127 N2TNN 559 VA DEAN 5W 7039 0127 N9FZ 599 GA CAINAN 5W 7039 0131 K2ZN 559 NY AL 5W 7030 0148 N8HWV 339 WI NATE 5W 3559 0153 K4PQC 599 GA PHIL 5W 3559 0153 K2TW 579 VA TOM 5W 7043 0220 AK3X 559 MD PETER 5W N8HWV was just regular CQing, but he was QRP and has been a Fox Hunter in the past.

Below is the log for NO2D from Parker, Colorado. We, too, had rolling thunderstorms all afternoon and right up to dinner time. 40 meters has near S-9 QRN throughout the hunt. I did not hear two stations that I normally do on 40 meters, K0DTJ in CA and KR0U in CO. Both were active, but I did not hear them. My log is: W4CMG 0123 TN Cathy 5w WC7S 0125 WY Dale 5w K4PQC 0127 GA Phil 5w NK9G 0130 WI Rick 5w I heard no foxes for the first 23 minutes of the hunt. I did hear one more fox calling, but could not make out her/his call. No one was at all strong. I gave out a nominal 559 because my S-meter was buried near S-9 throughout. Looking forward to the summer hunt. Thanks to everyone who helps to make our beloved fox hunts possible. Without you all they just would not happen. Pete, NO2D, Parker, CO.

I alternated CQs on 80m in my left ear and 40m on my right. I heard no answers on 80m. At least with QRP there was no trace of interstation interference at all even though I'm using the same vertical simultaneously for both bands. 2024-2025 80-40 Foxtravaganza Log from K4PQC
I'm sure I missed some.... I have been plagued with powerline noise especially with wet weather. Tonight was no exception. The noise floor on 40 and 80 swung between S-4 and S-5. So, if you were above the noise floor or if I could read your call you got an honest S-5. The only exception is if you were in my backyard. If I didn't get a reply after calling CQ a few times I switched bands so the log combined. The log is both running and S&P, Lots of fun even with the noise. FOXSTRAVAGANZA!! - RemoteHams
I am on the road, and plan to participate on the 40m band, using RemoteHams. There is a bit of a delay (as my keystrokes traverse the internet to the W4NC K3 in Winston-Salem, and back). So if/when you hear me, please give me a little more "room" before jumping in. I do not have 80m capability... Good luck to all! -- a^2 + b^2 = c^2 x^2 + y^2 = r^2 e^iPi + 0^2 = i^2

Please join me in congratulating Den Blair, ND4U, for being the Top New Hound on both 40 meters and 80 meters this past season.
