Wrightlines Simplex and DeWinton
4
Hi everyone, I’m got a Wrightlines DeWinton Vertical Boiler kit and a Wrightlines open Simplex kit that I’d like to build. I’m wondering what my options are for power unit? Obviously it needs to be 14mm gauge. If anyone has any advice or experience I’d be very grateful. Thanks in advance, Tim

Backwoods - K1 Garratt

Hi, I am currently building a K1 Garratt, I have studied Johns photos and articles in the NG&Industrial Reviews. I am currently building the chassis’s have cut out and fitted the hornblocks with no problems – Question noting the extra mount to secure the motor to the frame. Are the hornblocks on the drive axle secured to ensure the cruciform stays secure on the motor shaft, Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated Many thanks Richard This email has been scanned by BullGuard antivirus protection. KBscale Models [1 Attachment]
I have been following this thread about KBScale not selling the Mashima motors, I would like to ask if anybody has tried Roxey Mouldings, I have been very happy with their service, I have mainly bought their kits and accessories for O gauge L&SWR.

Does anyone know what the position regarding KBscale? Most of the items on their webpage are marked as "Temporarily n/a" (not available) and there have been only two new items on the "News" page since November 2014! Also he states he has no plans to attend any exhibitions! Is this company shutting down? -- Brian Rumary England brian(at)rumary.co.uk

O14 Layouts
? Hi Guys While I am not (as yet) an 014 modeller I just wanted to put out an appeal for expo-ng standard 014 exhibition layouts. I think we have one for this year, but it appears we are a little bit light on O14 layouts for the future so if you have a layout which you might like to be considered, please get in touch and I will pass your details on to Steve or Richard. comparisoin of 3D printing processes requested
4
Has anyone had any experience with 3D printing from cwrailways.com (owned by Time Evans)? He is offering a 16micron layers process and the photos show a reasonably smooth surface. By comparison has anyone had experience with Shapeways' "Frosted Extreme Detail" (16micron layers) or their "High Definition Acrylate" (50micron layers). With the little bit of 3D printing that I have done I feel a smooth surface with minimum "stepping" visible on the layers is more important than actual minimum detail size. Previous experience with the Shapeways' "Frosted Ultra Detail" process also had a textured surface where the wax support structure was in contact with the model. Any comments on the quality/smoothness of the various processes or value for money is appreciated. Regards, Michael Milway

The information has beenup-dated but the major change has been the inclusion of ‘Previous’ and ‘NextPage’ buttons on each page to make browsing a lot easier. Please have a look and I hope you like the changes. www.rhyd.weebly.com Cheers David

SAR Bell Link & Pin Coupling
Here is some short videos of 7mm scale SAR bell type link & pins coupling which I redesigned so the could couple up automatically and you can either use a magnet mounted under the track or just push the dummy pin back toward the headstock of the wagon to uncouple <https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10208587856036739> <https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10208587768874560> Brian Rawbelle County Workshops Qld. Loco Weights
6
I thought we'd had this conversation in the group before, but can't find a reference... Is there a rule of thumb for adding weight to a loco - enough to make the most of its power without adding unnecessary strain? I'm actually getting close to finishing a loco; the prototype is a petrol-electric bogie unit. The model is plastic and with one powered bullant unit. Ideally, I'd like it to pull half a dozen wrightlines WDLR wagons which have some rolling resistance as they're mostly from the non-pinpoint bearing era. Before adding weight the loco is 125g and barely enough mass to avoid wheels pin on its own. I've enough lead prepared to fit the body she'll to bring it up to 350g. I've no shortage of lead and plenty of space. What's the mass is similar locos out there- could equally be a Garrett, funkey, Fairlie. And if powered on just 1 bogie, how is the weight distributed? Cheers Simon

7mm Open Day, Mickleover, Derby Sat 30th Jan
Apologies for cross posting if you belong to more than one group ! Everyone is invited to the following event 7mm Narrow Gauge Open Day (was a 'Members' Day' but is open to all) Saturday 30th January 2016 10.00am to 4.00pm Admission ?3 Mickleover Community Centre, Uttoxeter Road, Mickleover, Derby. DE3 0DA Light refreshments available Regular visitors will know that we started these Members' Days to enable us to show our group layout, Henmore - but not any more. After being featured in Railway Modeller and appearing at the York Show a couple of years ago, two boards were damaged whilst being dismantled and that brought forward our plans for some improvements. We also learnt that gravity is stronger than wood glue and screws when boards are no longer supported! The original plan had been a gradual replacement of 30 year old warped and heavy boards but we decided to go for a new layout. Come and discuss our plans - at last I think we know what we are going to do ! Layout and demo details to follow. Trade support from the usual suspects - EDM Models, Port Wynnstay Models, Minimum Gauge Models, 7mmNGA Sales, Second Hand and Publications Plenty of room for other modelling displays, 'bring and buy', layouts, demos etc. Please contact me and let me know if you want to offer something - it doesn't have to be 7mm but we would prefer Narrow Gauge !! Thanks to Paul at EDM you will find information on his website here http://www.ngtrains....s/TVG3/tvg3.htm We hope to see you there Mike
