Hell name here is Tom. I am new to the group and HF Packet. I recently installed UZ7HO'S sound modem and easy term clients. I have been trying to connect to stations on 14.105 LSB, from my MHeard list, for a few weeks now without any success. I have everything configured to suggested parameters. I am using a windows 10 machine along with a rigblaster interface. This setup works perfectly with many other sound card clients.

SCS PTC-II modem tones

I am leaving this here in case someone else runs up against the same problem
?
The DSP-II-module used to add packet radio in the PTC-II and PTC-IIpro has fixed tones for 300B packet
?
? DSP-Packet-Radio-Module-II for:
? ? ?- 300 baud AFSK (modem tones are fixed to 2300/2100 Hz, High-Tones)?
?
?
All the other modulations follow the definable tones parameter so i was confused why the tones were not following what i had selected.
So with these fixed tones i simply had to tune dial to 14.105.5 and it decoded the packets just fine.

Re: Jumpering ports on SCS PTC-II?

Thank you for your reply Demetre
I had the same question, Ive made a Y-cable splitting everything but the 13.8V power wire to the second plug for Packet Port 1 and it works great.

Re: Packet on Ubuntu

I'm a big fan of the KM6LYW DigiPi has everything built in , can be hooked to virtually any radio, has a Web based gui , has LinPac software built in and a PTT circuit, for older radios. I've built a half dozen of them, not too shabby.? Runs off of a Pi Zero or bigger, tons of video and support. For what it's worth, kills a few birds with a small stone.

Thank you! I will have a look at it soon! With my current setup it's easier to have an old laptop with lack of desk space and I have been playing with Linux but definitely still have no clue what I'm doing hihi!?

Hey Ryan,

Unfortunately there are no simple instructions for setting up packet on Linux, because it depends on how your PC is connected to your radio, and what exactly you want to do with packet. But basically, you can get started with connecting to other stations by installing Direwolf and a packet terminal program.
?
?
To install Direwolf, you can either use 'sudo apt install direwolf' or you can download and compile the source code from github:?
?
Once you have it installed, you need to configure the direwolf.conf file for your system, in particular for soundcard and PTT control. I'll attached a copy of my config file to help get you started. Mine is certainly not necessarily the "right way" to do it, but it is one way. :)? Look for the Direwolf "User-Guide.pdf" either on the github site, or in the source code directory if you compiled it manually.
?
?
Next you'll need a packet terminal. An easy one to install is called Paracon, which is located here:
?
Another one is QtTermTCP, written by G8BPQ the same guy that maintains the BPQ packet radio BBS programs. I have never been able to get it to work properly on Ubuntu/Linux Mint, apparently I'm missing some libraries. But you might have better luck than me!
?
A third option is to install Wine (the Windows Emulator) on Linux and then run UZ7HO's EasyTerm in Wine. It works great, and it also includes a simple mailbox feature that the others do not have.
?
?
I hope that helps get you started, and feel free to let me know if you have any questions along the way!

28.135USB 300B

Hi Jim.

I checked the time stamp and looks like our qso/bbs lasted around 35min give/take, a few min. and? one disconnect. 19:54-20:31Z

It was reminiscent of the good old days, no qrm, and just casual key to key and BBS.
The band dropped out to ur neck O the woods around that 20:31 Z time frame.

Was fun, and hpe we can do it again.?

I did hear a few 1200b usb sigs in there, but only a few, and none I cud decode.

You did! Thanks. I heard the radio TXing from the other room but wasn't able to get to the keyboard right away. It looked like there were a few retransmissions, but you got through anyway.
