Re: Noise on Frequency

If I am not mistaken (I do not use it) VARAC is typically rather narrow at 500Hz so even with tight narrow filters a nearby VARAC will certainly result in QRM.

I think it worth noting though that most but certainly not all Winlink use of VARA on HF can with decent signal paths be quite wide at nearly 3k Hz and if you check as Julian suggested you will likely find a bunch jammed around both the NET105 and the NET40 freqs... and at upwards of 3k Hz wide it can be nearly impossible to avoid the Winlink QRM when several are active simultaneously on either side of the ax25 freqs.

Re: Noise on Frequency

Hi all. Varac uses 14105 USB as a calling Freq, beacons etc. The problem is with the QSO channels, those are +- and I am pretty sure the lower ones hit the Net105 QRG. When operating varac, not very often though, I always use the upper channels for QSYing.
And, again, you have got the Winlink frequencies. Worth checking those on the respective website. There might be some new stns emerging in your area etc.

VarAC uses 14105 as a calling frequency, yes, but it’s USB so there isn’t usually interference with packet on LSB. This could be a misunderstanding or operator error by a new VarAC user.?

I understand, but it's a bit like parking on one of the FT8 frequencies.. just too popular for too many operators to use it for anything else.

Too bad that VARA decided to sit right here.....

Yes, 14.105 is the primary 20m calling frequency for VarAC You'll be fighting a whole lot of Vara users there. If you QSY up or down 250hz to 750hz, you'll have better luck.

Hello all, Happy Labor Day!

I'm sitting on 14.105 and trying to download the bulletins on SOLBBS and there's a "warbling" noise that seems to be right on frequency.
I've got a strong connection between me and N0HI but it's really making throughput tough.?? What is it?
My guess is it's VARA but I've never used that mode so can't tell for sure.
Is anyone else experiencing it?
I've been on the frequency now for about a week really enjoying my HF packet but this is pretty much shutting me down.??
I hope it isn't anything permanent.

Good news at this end everyone....I'm now up and running!

Everything at this end seems to be working fine.?? Now, this weekend my plan is to hook up a VHF radio so that I can do a gateway.

I've bot my beacon on and my PBBS is W1JT-1.?? A note from someone would be most appreciated!

So, yup, W1JT is now back on HF after 40 years!???

Sorry I haven't had a chance to get back to you as I was pretty well tied up with an rf module from one of our club repeaters and had
discovered that I put an NPN transistor in where it should have been a PNP!? Now, I've NEVER done that before, but I have an ex-
cuse:? OLD AGE!? hi hi? Putting in the correct PNP transistor fixed it up perfectly and it's ready to go back to its mountaintop home.

I still can't hear you, but tomorrow, I'll fire up the Icom 7100 with SoundModem and EasyTerm packet program from UZ7HO, hook
it all to the HyGain TH5mkII and point it your way.? That antenna can suck out a 1/4-watt signal from Hawaii, so I should be able to
copy you if you're still pointed this way on your beam.? Uhhhh, that's of course, Ma nature willin' and the river don't rise.? hi hi

Glad to hear that you hooked up with Les and ordered the cable.? I think you'll like it alot when you get things up and running!

Just curious:? What make of KAM do you have?? The original Kantronics All Mode, KAM Plus, or the KAM XL?

I'm updating my amateur radio web site as well as the? and Packet Maps and have compiled a list of suggested HF Packet Radio Frequencies from different sources - some new - some old.

I would enjoy input from the Group on corrections, additions, etc. especially Network30, 40 and 80 frequencies that members are using.

Also, if you run a BBS, Mailbox or Node on any VHF/UHF or HF frequencies in North America or anywhere in the World and would like to be listed, please post here or directly to me:
