Re: NEONIXIE-L elsewhere...

...should also have pointed at the topic list:

...and also to point out that I have absolutely no desire to run this on my own, or even at all - the group was created 6 years ago in case it was needed - it updates automatically from Yahoo every few minutes, and is otherwise pretty much as per here.

The files section has not been moved, but that could be done reasonably easily... (I think!).

As I mentioned, others have done similar things - the Google groups are pretty much identical in format & facilities to the Yahoo ones, without the c**p. They are also free in terms of resource and onus on us, the users.

Cheers

I have been quietly automatically shadowing neonixie-l since January at: - anyone can join (subject to the usual caveats to prevent spamming).

Others have done similar. AJ - If you want the Google Group, you are welcome...

Is that flat 7-segment tube the neo5000? I have a few and I've
been trying to identify them for a while. Do you know where I
can find any data sheets on these?

yes !that is a NEO5000 the neo8000 is larger<snip>
Okay so that is their number :)
I have had one of each of NEO5000 /8000 for some years without really
bothering too locate specs/numbers...
Nice to know what they are.

Mine are not 100% identical with the pics, though.. Hmmm... My "NEO5000"
does not have that cirlcle in the upper left corner..
And has following printed on the back side : "IEE NEO5 PG150-27"

My "NEO8000" Doesn't have the two dark rings in the segment nor the upper
left ring... no printing anywhere..

Otherwise they're identical..

I will see I can upload pictures of them..
I was just looking back over this topic again and notice something I hadn't before, that Dan Burer's "NEO-5000" style devices are marked as being made by IEE (Industrial Electronic Engineers), of projection indicator and NIMO tube fame.

So, we now have at least two and possibly three different makers of the NEO-xxxx indicators. I guess three, based on my datasheet (of unknown origin) listing all dimensions in millimeters, while my IEE NIMO tube datasheets give them in inches -- plus Matsushita having entirely different part numbers for their versions.

yahoo fixed it?

The new interface went away...hmmm.....

But it is likely it will return. yahoo is good at screwing things up.

Dave,

Thank you very much for the compliment, though I'm not nearly in the same league as John Aaron.

Perhaps this is what you have.
I wish I knew how to tell them apart. None of them are marked very well but based on what I've read on this thread, it sounds probable that there were multiple manufacturers. Do you know of the Matsushita digits were also called NEO XXXX ?
I'm not sure but I wouldn't think so. The only maker's mark I could find on the "real" (?) ones was "Y.S."

Here's the new group I just created for nixie lovers. If someone more experienced wants to takeover, just let me know:

I had posted this as its own thread, but it's not showing up...

Sorry

This is a mess all right. You've done a good job AJ. So what did happen to the
backup any way?

I can provide physical hosting on the Sun in my garage (5mbit upstream), if
that is of use to anyone at all.

I can see I won't be participating in too many Yahoo groups with this format (I currently subscribe to about 20!). This is really bad!!

Do you know if there is anyone out there I can hire to program your hex code onto a controller chip for me? (I'm a Mac guy...)
I'll do it for free. I'm a Mac guy too. Lack of Mac support and undocumented interfaces is why I left PIC for AVR.

Here ya go: If anyone more experienced with all things nixie wants to take the reigns, just let me know.

Re: Multiplex Timing 1x6 - Advice?

Thanks threeneurons. I hadn't thought about the accuracy issue. I am using GPS to set the time which also increases every second. But I still need accuracy in case it's not connected. It's probably best I go back to finding a good cap/crystal combo instead of a resonator.

Thanks for the info on the muxing. That's a huge help.

Wait, one more--dedicated to a very slick-looking Nixie Tube clock (which may be something else besides a clock?) Very cool looking though:

Re: Sorry Folks, This is THE END

Check that--there's one group with one member:

The home page says that the owner is planning one--but of course there's nothing to prevent someone from this forum from starting our own. I'd volunteer, but I'm a newbie and have yet to complete my first clock. (But I'm almost done!)

I'm so sorry to hear that despite being mostly a lurker. This list

I can provide resources in my dreamhost account to host a new list /

cheers.
