Hi - Yes - I've archived/shodowed the entire Yahoo! neonixie-l group at Groups.io - they would have sent emails to the Yahoo! group as part of this and that would them be forwarded to the Google group as the Google group is subscribed to the Yahoo! one... Hope that make it clear! Irritating, isn't it. I try to sort out stuff behind the scenes, then something goes a bit pair-shaped... :) Don't worry about it - the message is genuine, but just ignore it - no-one can port to the Groups.io shadow anyway... Cheers Nick

Please read this to the end. You are subscribed to the NEONIXIE-L mail list on Yahoo Groups. If you have forgotten that you are still subscribed, and wish to unsubscribe, here is the link: <mailto:NEONIXIE-L-unsubscribe@...> This is a reminder message from the moderators, automatically sent out each month. It covers some policy guidelines. 1. EXCESSIVE QUOTING: The space for messages in the archives may be limited; we have once before reached the limit with subsequent automatic deletion of a month's worth of messages. For this reason, please respect the value of archived information by limiting quoted material. When you reply, please remove all but the minimum amount of the quoted message necessary to provide context for your reply. If the thread is already long, consider quoting nothing, starting your reply from a blank body. If no concise quotable passage neatly leads into your response, summarizing is an appropriate alternative. Over-quoting can even cause confusion, such as when a reply says, "I agree with you", or, "that's a good idea", but it is unclear what is being referred to, since the entire original message was quoted. Considering that the body of many messages consists of around 80% quoted material and 20% new material, it is easy to see that much of the text in our archive consists of redundant material. Anyone searching the archive must also deal with a longer list of hits since the search will find each message with the search key, whether the original or the redundant quoted-again material. This makes searching the archive less fruitful in quickly locating desired information. Consequently fewer people will use the archive and instead just ask the question again. Excessive quoting is perhaps the most common lapse in netiquette observed on the forum, and members who gratuitously over-quote may be moderated without warning. Along those lines, simple thank-you replies to individuals who posted useful and helpful information should be sent to their private e-mail addresses, instead of to the whole group, since they are intended for only one person. For more thorough guidelines on posting format, please read our Database > List FAQ section online and/or one or more of the following: http://www.extension.umn.edu/miv/curriculum/lguide.html http://www.atis.net/netiquet.html http://www.netizens.ws/message-boards-and-email-lists.htm Although some of these guides are intended for Usenet newsgroup posts, and we may have slightly different policies in a few cases, most of the contents apply equally well to our forum. 2. HTML: Mail in HTML is strongly discouraged, due to inefficiency. The code of an HTML email message is typically 3 or more times the size of the same message in plain text, due to the HTML tags and the double inclusion of all the original text. Please post using plain text only. 3. File Attachments: Since Yahoo doesn't store message attachments for online viewing, and only members receiving individual emails would receive any attachments sent, attachments are turned OFF. Any attachments to emailed posts will be removed automatically. 4. Photos: This section is organized into albums by subject, with names of members' personal albums for showing off their own projects prefixed by "Member: ". If your photo is of general interest, please try to locate the best existing album to upload it into. If there is no appropriate album for it, then make a new one as necessary, but please browse the albums first to note which classifications have already been made, to be sure that there is no existing place for your new image. If you want an album of your own, please use the "Member: " prefix when you name it. 5. Files: The organization of this section uses folders arranged by subject. All files for similar projects or topics are grouped together. Please try to locate the best place to upload your files. If there is no suitable folder or sub-folder for what you have, then make a new one, but note that many different classifications have already been made, so please browse the folders first to be sure that there is not already a place for it. In the comments for each file please describe the file, and include message numbers of posts referring to it. Please do not use personal folders (i.e., folders with your name or user ID). That is for the Photos section. For further details and explanations, please view the FAQ files available in our online Database section: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEONIXIE-L/database Thank you for your attention and we hope to see you participate in this lively and informative forum. Moderator message: Several of our members have have email address settings for their NEONIXIE-L accounts which are either invalid, or frequently "bounce" incoming messages. To see if you're one of them, visit this link: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEONIXIE-L/members?group=bounce Members found in our "Bouncing" list may be removed without warning. If you find yourself suddenly unsubscribed, this is the most likely reason. Feel free to re-subscribe, but please use a valid email address. Experience shows that the majority of members unsubscribed due to bouncing are those who leave their Yahoo Groups account email address set to the default "...@..." email address, and don't actually use Yahoo for email. Also, if you have your account for this group set to an invalid email address, or one which you rarely check (and thus may often bounce mail without your being aware of it), please update your info with an email address that you DO use. If you have any doubt at all, please verify that your settings for this group (at <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEONIXIE-L/join>) include a valid email address. You may also wish to verify that your main Yahoo account info has the correct address set as your "primary" address. {At the top of any Yahoo page, click the "My Account" link, enter your password when requested, then verify that your "Yahoo! OT: Fun stuff for your web site... 5
Yeh. Off topic and all that, but good fun (in a geeky way). You can get a free rotating globe hit map for your web site - see my page at http://www.desmith.net/NMdS/Electronics/TraceWidth.html for an example. You can drag & spin the globe, and click on it for more detail. Google Analytics give some of that info, but not in real-time. The people behind it are http://www.revolvermaps.com . Quite cute, I thought... Nick

BURROUGHS NIXIE TUBE 122P224, what do I need to know? 3
Hi Everyone, I'm thinking about buying a set of these for my next clock which will be direct drive. Can you allhelp answer a few questions for me? Anything about these tubes I should know? Any quirks? Are the "5" and the "2" actually different numbers? Is this one of the models that uses radioactive material? Are these good tubes in general? Thanks! Ian

Neonixie closed group - potential re-birth as a registered site and domain 2
Hello all, thought i'd post this and see if any interest comes back, seeing as the groups now closed, this would be a good time to see about migration. If anyone is interested at the end of the month, providing there is enough support and some help with regular funding, i am willing to register a domain name (as yet undecided) and host a package that will give the group a wider remit in regards to postings, pictures etc etc using perhaps PhP BBS or something similar, can I have a straw poll to see who is in favour of this, the initial costs will be borne by myself, the server will be US located but the domain will be my property and registered here in the UK. Any ideas for domain name please float then, i have a few myself. I would also need a moderator aside from myself, so if anyone is up for the job stateside let me know. regards to all, John

IMPORTANT: Cross posting between Yahoo! and Google neonixie-l groups...
I should make it clear that whilst anything posted in the Yahoo! neonixie-l group is also automatically cross-posted to the Google Group by the same name, the converse is NOT true. So, anything posted on the Google neonixie-l group will NOT make its way to the Yahoo! group as the Yahoo! group is now unmoderated and may close. The corollary of this is therefore that complete threads are only guaranteed to be available on the Google group and if you post on and only observe the Yahoo! group, you may miss messages. Cheers Nick

Sorry Folks, This is THE END 22
Yahoo, in their infinite idiocy, have once again foisted upon us a new "upgrade", without warning and without asking whether we wanted it. This new UI/skin or whatever they're calling it is a total crapfest. This was the last straw, so I am no longer going to be running this group on Yahoo. Owner Ray is once again MIA, having been in the "Bouncing" email list for over 3 months, so I don't expect him to take over anytime soon. If any of those who have downloaded content in response to my previous posts on the subject, or anyone willing to do so now, would like to take up the torch and host/manage a replacement group elsewhere, you are quite welcome to do so. If there are more than one of you, I leave it up to yourselves to work out the details. You may use this message board to do so if you wish. I will provide whatever assistance I can, and will leave this group open to member posts without moderation (members currently on moderation, I hope to have all of you on normal status shortly but if I miss anyone, I will still be notified by email and will admit your posts and update your status as I am able). The group will be closed to new members until further notice. I will also be updating the homepage text alerting anyone arriving there to the situation. If an alternative to this group approved by formal or informal consensus of the members here is underway in a timely manner, I will happily update this group's homepage again to redirect any new arrivals to the new alternative site. Best regards, and hoping to see you all soon in greener (oranger?) pastures, Alan "A.J." Franzman NEONIXIE-L moderator

Let's all make the jump. 18
Before YAHOO jerks us around again, let's all move over to the neonixie-L group on Google. I just looked, it looks like it would be a fairly seamless transition. All our recent messages are posted there. Is there any reason to stay with Yahoo? Limited space for files might be an issue. I "applied" for membership with the google group. Not sure who has to approve me. Here's the link again. http://groups.google.com/group/neonixie-l/topics?hl=en Terry.
